I chose this b&b because I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a big name hotel and I wanted a more authentic villa experience with personalized service pre cruise for a 2 night stay. We wanted to be central so we could do as much as possible, easily, before the cruise. After checking reviews here and on Expedia, etc in my budget the Rome Apart came up and I could not have been happier. I always trust Trip Advisor recommendations wherever I go and it’s never let me down !!||THE HOST |Umberto was a helpful and communicative host from the start. All through the trip he was accessible by phone / WhatsApp and went above and beyond to give us tips, options and great info to make informed decisions on our trip. Having this personalized service was what I was looking for and what you get from a smaller establishment. He alone is worth the visit !||BOOKING|I emailed direct to book after reading reviews online and was able to get a slightly better deal vs booking online via 3rd party site (insider tip!). They save commissions anyhow that way so are usually happy to :). The booking process was easy via email. $310 Canadian for 2 nights including breakfast is in my opinion a great deal ! (Note we came a little off season) ||AIRPORT TRANSFER |Umberto was super helpful in pre arranging transportation from the airport to the hotel. Since we are new to the area and it’s a small hidden gem I didn’t want to have any issues securing a ride and finding the place. The $50 euro fee and service by the driver, Roberto, was very well worth it. He waited with my name on the sign for us when we landed. No issues. Fast professional service. ||LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION|you cannot beat the location of the Rome Apart! You are literally across the road from the Vatican. Steps to convenience stores. Restaurants etc. The train station is down the road and there’s a bus line across the street. It’s a walking city and we walked to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps (30 mins) no issue. Trastevere is a $10 cab ride each way or you can take a bus and walk. Colosseum we did by bus. Bus is $1.50 and you purchase tickets next door at the convenience store. Easy to navigate using google maps ! Note there is Uber in Rome however it’s expensive as it’s new with limited drivers. I used it as a guideline to know how much to expect to pay a cab but the cab was typically half the price of the Uber. The overall location is safe. ||BREAKFAST |Umberto was apologetic about the “not American style” breakfast but we were THRILLED by our European style breakfast. It was plentiful and tasty. He makes the best cappuccino!!! Warm croissants and roll. Cereal. Milk. Juice. Jams. It was the perfect way to start the morning ! umberto will ask you what time you want it delivered and will cart it to your room on time. The view out our balcony was the perfect spot to enjoy it !|||THE ROOM |It’s perfectly fine and did the job ! It’s as shown in the photos. Clean. All the essentials. AC. Don’t forget your European to American plug adaptor ! We had a room that faces the back / buildings and it was quiet and a pretty view with the door open. We didn’t find the hotel noisy. Hearing the Vatican church bells was bliss. ||THINGS TO NOTE |Yes it is 3 flights of stairs to get up to the hotel which is a trek and not advisable for those with mobility issues. Umberto carried my large cruise luggage up for me with my husband :) it’s a manual 3 key process to get in and out of the room / building. They are a little finicky. The shower is very small and a larger person would struggle in it. I felt claustrophobic and left the door open while showering :). Bathrooms seem to be an overall big difference though in Italy though to...
Read moreMy husband had paid in advance for a one night stay at Rome Aparthotel. We asked several times prior to our arrival about parking for our rental car. We were assured that they had a partnership with a secure parking area for our trip. We had only one night in Rome and did not want any complications so we could maximize our enjoyment. When we arrived at the hotel Umberto was not working but his assistant, Olga was there. She sent us to the parking area to secure our car and we found that the lot was closed. We contacted Olga and she tried to contact Umberto but did not get a response. We lost 2 hours of our valuable time trying to find out if the lot was going to be open later or if we had other parking options. After being hot and tired we checked into another hotel with a secure lot available. Umberto called my husband and said he would be in contact later with him. We requested at least a partial refund but did not receive anything from Umberto. Very...
Read moreHad a wonderful stay with Umberto at the ApartHotel. It's right across the street from the Vatican, a perfect location for me. I was lucky enough to get the San Pietro room, which faces the Vatican -- as you fall asleep, you see the illuminated dome of St Peter's shining in the night. It's just magical. The hotel is on the south side of the Vatican, and the museum entrance is on the north side, but it's a short walk across the plaza and around the walls. Umberto has remodeled an apartment into three very nice, modern guest rooms. There are stairs, so if that's a problem, this isn't for you. Umberto was very kind and accommodated some special needs graciously. He was very helpful and gave me good advice on getting around. He and his girlfriend took me for a walk along one of their favorite routes, and gave me a ride to the Ponto Milvio when they were headed that way. Wonderful hospitality. Great location. I'm very happy I...
