This was my first stay at the Residenza Paolo VI. Very expensive hotel but I paid for location since I wanted to be close to the Vatican. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the two ladies at the reception desk and the gentleman at the terrace. They smiled and made us feel welcomed. I am disappointed about the room quality. My room was a triple with a king size bed with extra single bed addition for additional fee per night. There was still enough space to walk around but the decor looked like a 3 star hotel. We were only given 3 bottles of water in the refrigerator on the first day and nothing else for the rest of the stay so we bought our own water and put it in the fridge. For a 4 star hotel there should be better variety of soft drinks and a coffee maker inside the rooms. Bathroom amenities were minimal for 3 people but we managed. I was pleased that the room service made our beds and changed towels. Breakfast was included and it was an excellent assortment of cold cuts, cheese, bread, yogurt and fruits with delicious orange juice and coffee! I’m giving 5 rating, because it was my first stay and I didn’t know what to expect. Next time if I stay here I will book a better quality room and my expectations will be higher.

Incredible. We were blown away by our stay at Residenza Paolo VI Hotel. The location is phenomenal. Not only do you have an incredible view of St. Peter’s Basilica from the terrace, it’s an easy walk to all of the wonderful things to see in Rome. We enjoyed multiple meals at the hotel during our stay. Breakfast every morning was fresh and delicious, and one of the waiters even remembered our coffee orders every day. We ate dinner at the terrace multiple times, the service and the food were great. If you’re staying through a Sunday definitely make sure to check out the Pope’s Angelus address. You can stand on the hotel terrace to watch him deliver the address from a window across the way. All of the staff was incredibly kind and considerate. They went out of their way to ensure our visit was enjoyable. The beds were comfortable, and we really appreciated the thick curtains that made the room nice and dark. The day we departed Rome we had to leave early, one of the front desk receptionists called the taxi office to schedule a pick up - it was so helpful! When we return to Rome we will definitely be staying at Residenza Paolo VI Hotel again. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

If I had to describe the best thing about this hotel, it would be the location. It's only a few footsteps away from St Peter's Square. It is also part of the Vatican territory! Not everyone is allowed to enter the building; you will need to ring a buzzer at the entrance to let them open the automatic door for you. Breakfast was really good 👍🏻 Lots of options to choose from. Same with the rooftop service as well; excellent service and staff was very outgoing. Personal opinion: The triple room felt way bigger than I thought it would be from just looking at the interior pictures of the website. It's also not spectacular, but it worked out and had everything we needed. I had to go on my tippy-toes to take the cupola picture since the window is pretty far from the ground. LOL The website wasn't lying. It's a very refined and private hotel. Front desk staff are great and welcoming! Leave your bags with them when you are about to check-in or check-out. Spending the remaining hours on the streets around the Vatican makes your stay very worth it!!!! Grazie mille a tutti! ❤️

We've stayed at the hotel at least 5 different times and always thought highly of the hotel and especially the location.

However this year we experienced a few things that were disappointing.

The condition of the room was not up to the standards of the past even though we were in an upgraded room costing almost 400.00 a night - another issue I'll address later.

The bathroom sink had a large crack that at the bottom and along one side and looked like it wasn't even attempted to be repaired.

The heat in the room was constantly jumping to 25 degrees C even though we continued turning off. Walking into the room felt like walking into an oven. Fortunately we were able to open the window to cool it down. We felt badly about the waste of energy due to the excessive heat.

We wanted to stay current with news from the U.S. since it was the week of the presidential inauguration and tried getting some channels on the TV in the room. However we kept getting a message there was no signal.

Because we've stayed at the hotel before in a standard room and found it to be very small for two people we upgraded to a deluxe, also called superior room. We asked what the cost difference would be but was sent a quote for the upgraded room which I didn't see until checkout. The difference in the standard room per night (149.00 euro) and the deluxe room (almost 400 euro a night) was not worth the cost - especially with the issues mentioned above.

When we asked if they would reconsider the cost we were told we could get a discount on another reservation but not our existing reservation. We responded that we wouldn't be back.

I'm very sorry to report these negative responses but it's the reality of our stay.

The best part of the stay was the service provided at the breakfast. The person in charge was wonderful but overall our stay was maybe a 2.

We booked this hotel through booking.com. I booked 2 rooms (one for my husband and myself and one for our American friends). We ended up paying $629.00 Canadian dollars per night for the WORST rooms we have ever had. The rooms were used by nuns and they were ridiculously small with basically no amenities, certainly no view and a very tiny bathroom. To say they were basic would be an understatement. I'm not sure if we got ripped off by the hotel or by booking.com. I will say that the hotel is in a great location and it does have a very nice (albeit expensive) outdoor bar area. The problem was that the woman who was serving drinks was so unfriendly. She acted as if she was doing you a huge favor just by getting you a drink (which again, was expensive to begin with). We met another couple from Canada who showed us their room (which was huge with a beautiful view and they paid just over $500.00 per night). She was appalled when we showed her ours. We did speak to a woman at the reception desk as we were trying to change rooms (of course there was nothing available) and when she looked up the price that we paid you could see the shock on her face. The other negative about this hotel is that it is not easy to get in to. You literally have to ring a bell and hope that there is someone at the desk who will let you in. I was beyond mortified and embarrassed since I was the one who booked the rooms. It was disgraceful that the hotel even offered these horrible rooms, I am sure that we would have had better at a hostel (I can assure you that we are not hostel people but you get what I am saying). The management at the hotel did nothing to assist us and we had to suffer through 3 nights. It was a nightmare to say the least. Not even a face cloth in the room and they wouldn't...

10 maximum Location : 11 / out of 10. This is really special and may justify the price.

Breakfast : 5/10 . For that price league the hotel feels like it belongs to, the breakfast was lacking in quality, quantity and variety as well as the display. Staff rolled their eyes at the request of an extra bread roll or any style of eggs.

Service: 3/10 at the restaurant, roof top. Staff was rolling their eyes for any extra request ,such as a cappuccino at the morning breakfast. In the evening we stopped visiting the roof top restaurant, because service was pathetic. Service at reception : 10/10. polite, professional, helpful and fantastic with the different languages. Thank you and kudos to Valentina. Cleanness: 9/10 Maintenance: 1/10 , air condition . For the entire stay, 4 days and we brought it to attendance on the first day , the air con was not fixed. Absolutely unacceptable. The wall looks like it was from a construction site, plaster patching on over six holes without paint, give a very grimy feel of the room. Minibar: 0/10 never stocked, not even water really ?? Room : 7/10 because air condition didn't work. Size and furniture adequate and sufficient. Very nice with the separate private entrance. Very quiet. Bathroom needs maintenance. Sink was cracked, frame of shower was rubbish and dirty

Bedding: 5/10. Just one small pillow per person ??? Really ??

Final verdict: We certainly would not recommend this hotel if guests expect flawless and friendly, polite efficient staff and quality food. If you look for location and willing to compromise on any other aspects of a four star...
