I recently returned from a trip touring several cities in Italy. In Venice we booked a room at the Ca' del Nobile hotel basically based on photos and price listed online. We wanted a place which was in the San Marco area so that we were close to Piazza San Marco. The hotel was only about a 5 minute walk to this location once we knew our way around. The streets and alleys in Venice are like negotiating a maze but there are hidden treasures behind every turn. The hotel is on a quiet street with a cafe right next door. You enter on the ground floor through a small hall with stairs to the 1st first floor, no elevator. This is a small, quiet boutique hotel, There is a desk at the top of the stairs and small lobby where the host sat and welcomed us. The staff was very polite and pleasant and check-in was quick. Our room was just to the right of the desk. We had a double bed and plenty of room compared to other smaller hotels I have stayed at in Italy. The decor was very pretty and the room and bed were very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was very pretty with a Venetian style as well and although small compared to US standards it was large enough for us and larger than other hotels I was at in Italy. The host made sure to point out that we had a mini bar in the room and that it was complimentary. This was unexpected and very appreciated so we took full advantage and it was restocked every day. I felt this hotel really wanted their guests to have the best experience possible. I looked but wasn't able to find any English channels on the tv but they have several Italian channels. Check- out was 11am, however we had a nighttime train to Vienna. The attendant at the hotel let us leave our bags in the lobby by the desk and gave us the code to get back in after hours to retrieve them which was a big help to us. I feel this property was worth the price and was very...
Read moreTHE WORST!!! This was the absolute WORST hotel experience I have ever experienced in my 40plus years of travelling. It put a whole damper on our trip to Venice. When we arrived at hotel at 4:10pm, the "staff" had already left for the day at 4pm...Ah La Dolce Vita and L'arte di fare niente!
We had to call a number to get buzzed in. After 10 minutes of trying. we were finally buzzed in. The place was empty with keys on desk for late check-ins, not very secure or potentialyl hygenic if someone wants to use your bathroom before you arrive. I had rented 2 rooms, one for my teenagers and one for my wife and I. I had specifically rented one room with twin beds for my daughter and son. I had even called ahead to confirm that there was a room with twin beds and they confirmed that there was.
In fact, the keys that were left for us were tagged as twin beds. However, there were no twin beds in the room. When we called to inquire, the inkeeper, clearly taking a nap at home and could not be bothered, said that the beds were twins pushed together but had one cover on it made up with one set of sheets.
When we told him this is the same in every room but what we needed were the beds to have been made up separately, he said he had no patience for this. To add insult to injury, the room they gave us was half the size with 2 feet less of a ceiling for the same price as our bedroom.
The hotel, which is really a house, is at best a 2star hotel and the service is dispicable and unprofessional. Stear clear of this hotel, I should have stayed just outside of Venice, paid half the price for 5 times the luxury and 10 times the professionalism than to pay these fees and put up with the equivalent of Venice's...
Read moreWonderfully nice couple who own this hotel in a prime location steps from San Marco Square. They were very helpful, had a small desk setup in the living room area on the third floor outside three of the 5 rooms and will help you with your baggage, make plans, reservations at restaurants or with water taxis for airport pickup. Rooms are immaculately clean and decorated like a museum, in traditional 15th century decor. They have a nicely stocked sitting area with travel books. Of no fault of the hotel, there are two rooms with street facing windows and three with inside facing windows. We had an inside room, which when you walk in, just feels configuratively off and is dark . The mattress had never been turned so the foot is about 6 cm higher than the head to the naked eye, which made the beds a little uncomfortable, though the pillows and bedding were of high quality-cotton, fresh sheets and rooms well air conditioned with controls on the wall. It was perfect for a two day stay, but I wouldn't want to be there for any extended period of time. Cute breakfast bar that the owner will make for you including espresso, cappucino juice, peanuts and...
