Guesthouse Kyoto Ekimae II — Hotel in Kyoto

I don't recommend it. Its price is tempting but really, don't do it. It's by far the worst service I've experienced in Japan.

The main door was left unlocked. There were no check-in instructions. I was lucky that the room doors were unlocked too. There were mosquitoes around and the bedsheets were unmade. Atrocious service.

At about 10pm, the owner came to collect the room fees. First, she tried to charge us ~¥8,000 even though we booked it at ¥4,800. Eventually she said it was ¥5,400 due to the local tax.

When we mentioned that the sheets were a little itchy and asked if there was a receipt, she got angry and insisted that we leave. We were willing to pay but she didn't want to accept the room fees. Her tone was rude and she demanded us to cancel the booking even though it was raining and we haven't found another place.

All in all it is a nice place, it is near the station and has everything you need. But the check-in was a little dodgy. We did not get the key and we were not sure when we will find the guesthouse open or closed. The owners spoke little English so we could not confirm that.
