Average place with an emphasis on engaging with the customers. No locals seen, only foreigners.
Not a place for those who wants to have a quiet meal. Staff were all very young looking, maybe in their early 20s, spoke decent English. Newly opened from what I overheard from the conversation, 5 months if im not wrong.
Food was okay. Wagyu was decent as expected from the marbling. Soy sauce added was tad bit much, was salty at the end when the broth boiled too much. Dessert was a frozen sorbet, too sweet for me.
Table was cleaned once when there were empty plates. Subsequently before serving dessert, table was a bit messy from the broth on the table but was not wiped before dessert served.
It was sort of cute that all the waitress and a kitchen staff came rushing out to bid farewell to each group of customers that left but it was a bit too much for me.
And they asked for a photo together halfway through the meal and asked to pose with the plate of wagyu. Not sure what it was for initially, until I was given a Polaroid of it. Seems like other customers had the same experience as well.
Not sure how they got 1040 reviews which are all only 5 stars ratings.
Staff seems to try their best with their youthful energy, but nothing special about the food for 18400 yen for the wagyu sukiyaki/shabu shabu set with 1 drink. Perhaps I might enjoy it more...

The service was exceptional, with attentive and genuinely friendly staff who love engaging with customers. They create a lively, interactive atmosphere, so if youâre seeking a quiet dining experience, this may not be the ideal spot. Even the kitchen staff were remarkably warm, coming out to greet us and letting us hold an impressive, uncut piece of Wagyu, a delightful and unexpected touch!
The food was phenomenal. The high-quality Wagyu and perfectly prepared sukiyaki were the highlights, complemented by generous portions. Unlimited rice and side dishes added great value to the meal. While the pricing is on the higher side, the central Kyoto location is convenient and vibrant. When the staff learned we were celebrating a birthday, they went above and beyond, surprising us with a complimentary cake, a heartfelt birthday song, and an instant photo to capture the moment. Their thoughtfulness made the evening truly special.
As someone who enjoys a lively atmosphere, I loved every moment of this dining experience and am grateful to the staff for their warmth and effort. However, if youâre shy or prefer a more private, intimate setting, like my friend who joined me, you might want to consider this...
Read moreWe had an incredible dining experience at Wagyu Sukiyaki Kyoto Chikarayama. From the moment we walked in, the staff welcomed us with warm hospitality and treated us with genuine kindness and respect, something we truly appreciated as American visitors. Special thanks to Yura, Yusei and Koyuki.
The food was absolutely amazing. The wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly marbled, and rich in flavor. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of authentic Japanese taste. You can tell they take pride in their craft, and it shows in both the quality of the ingredients and the thoughtful service.
The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, patiently explaining the menu and sukiyaki process in English. It was one of the most memorable meals weâve had in Japan.
Highly recommend this spot if youâre visiting Kyoto and want a premium wagyu experience with...
