La Vegan Taquería — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

I'm quite surprised by all the 5 star reviews saying the best vegan tacos ever. These are average vegan tacos. I loved how it came with sauces and rice and beans on the side to add. First when that was presented I though for sure I would be joining the 5 star crowd. However, the faux vegan meat ones were pretty bad. The hibiscus flower taco was interesting. My favorite by far and its not even close was the poblano pepper taco. The poblano melts in your mouth. My 2nd favorite thing was the passionfruit kombucha that had REAL passionfruit pulp in it!!!! However overall the vegan cheese and meat are bad but this is mexico so probably not the best access to ingredients. I also ordered the Yerba mate drink but than noticed it was sweetened with sucralose which is an artificial sweetener. Overall not bad but still a lot to be desired. It pains me to write a “bad” review for any vegan establishment, but this place was pretty disappointing. I was extremely excited to try their food, but everything was pretty bland.

Let’s start with the agua de Jamaica. First sip and my husband and I both made a “face” at the same time! He said it was the worst Jamaica he ever had.

The salt shaker had holes big enough to let the rice fall through, so I had hard, uncooked rice added to all of my dishes…

To start, we both got the flautas. I liked 2 out of the 3 that were provided.

Next, I tried ordering the “tofish taco” which they didn’t have.

We ordered a few more items that were good, although slightly bland.

Then it was time to pay and THAT’S when they said “cash only.” I really wish places would say this ahead of time. We barely had enough cash.

Understated, Mexican-vegan delights at a great price and variety. Ever wanted a vegan version of a baja fish taco or chicharron? This is the place. We loved that you could order by the single taco and try multiple flavours: my favourite was the tofish and my partner’s was the Jamaica. My partner & I each ordered 3 and were filled. Our children had a single and were happy. The various sauces, beans and rice are a bonus to customize. The kombucha they carry is delicious- we had the Jamaica flavour. There are a few tables inside and out- inside the lighting is dim, theee is a large wall mural and it feels cozy, although outside is informal and on the side of a busy road. service is very fast and friendly.
