We enjoyed our week-long stay here. The staff were super helpful with everything we asked for, including booking taxis and tours. Breakfasts are served between 8am and 10am, and each day there was something new and interesting to eat, all of it traditional local fare so don't expect a full English breakfast. Fresh fruit and coffee as well.
Our room was cozy, large, very clean and stayed cool even during the hottest days. There is coffee and tea in the room and filtered water that is refilled daily. The bed is firm, which we like, but if you prefer a soft, squishy bed then you might not like it. We slept very well and were not awakened by guests, staff or street noises. Hot water for the shower is scarce it should be noted. If you get 3 minutes of hot water, you've done very well. But it heats up quickly in the tiny tank outside the room.
We didn't use the soaking tub because we didn't feel like cleaning it out all the time or fighting with the insects that made a home there. The pool in the garden square is small but quite lovely--the water was reasonably warm.
Since the hotel is just off the main street running thru town, you are close to just about everything. The supermarket is about a four minute walk, but there is also a closer Go Mart which is decently stocked up with essentials. Plenty of nearby restaurants and shops. Unless you like haggling, or possibly paying way too much, aim for the shops that have price tags on what they sell. Other shops may try to exploit you, like one opportunist who tried to sell me a sterling silver bracelet, that at best was worth $20, for $200. Know your exchange rates!! Lol. Getting to the beach is easy by taxi (100 to 150 pesos max), or you can borrow a bike from the hotel and get there in 15 minutes probably. The bikes are well used, but if it gets stolen, you will be charged $150 USD.
So I'm giving Villas Geminis five stars because of their super friendly and helpful staff, location, and cleanliness. But this isn't a "five star" hotel by typical scoring methods by way of amenities. It is a cozy well run and charming boutique hotel with local character aplenty. Embrace it and don't expect a night at the Ritz and you'll...
Read moreMy wife and I had a great time in Tulum and we definitely recommend the Villas Geminis if you want to stay near the downtown action. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and had a large container of clean drinking water that the staff refilled when needed. While the hotel is near downtown it was not overly loud at night. If you are a light sleeper or coming from a very quiet town you might consider bringing earplugs but honestly we were so wiped out from each day that we slept great every night.
The included hotel breakfast was a quick and easy way to start our day with a full stomach. When we were there breakfast included eggs (scrambled, omelettes or mexicana style), fresh fruit, coffee, yogurt, granola and toast. The bed was comfy and the room also included a fridge and small cooking area (although we ate all our meals out in Tulum). There is a popup food truck situation right by the hotel each night, I would highly recommend saving some room to check those out (they were a super affordable late night munch).
The front desk can help you out with the included pedal bikes. There is also a scooter place right around the corner that you can rent a scooter from (Kelly Rental). The rental was super convenient being so close to the hotel, although you might find a slightly cheaper deal if you shop around. I would also recommend asking the staff about transportation from the airport to the hotel. They put us in contact with a company that picked us up right outside of our terminal and took us literally inside the hotel to make sure we were all setup before they took off which was super helpful because we got in slightly after checkout and the driver helped us get our bearings as we were entering Tulum.
All in all we had a great time and definitely recommend the great staff...
Read moreThis is my little slice of heaven. In the morning they serve all the guests a hand cooked breakfast that includes whatever fresh fruit they are chopping up right in front of you and eggs how you like them (I suggest letting her make them mexicana the way she would eat them. While you can take it back to your room or eat at a little table in the courtyard, we preferred eating at the big table with as many other guests that wanted to join. Me and one of the guys who work here, you'll get to know them all well, had a lot of fun joking with each other all week as we were both working to speak better in each other's language. ||||They supplied plenty of fresh water in the rooms. Always made us take new clean towels, that are huge and super soft. Super nice and friendly and made it really easy for us. I know waiting on people can't always be fun but they made sure that it always felt like they wanted to do it. If you want this is a place you can do it. ||||I really can't say enough about this place. If you don't want to stay at a resort, and actually want to experience México and it's people, you have to say in the city. By the way it gives you far more access to everything getting out of those pricey resorts. They are really just for people who want to go to another country but not actually go to that country. This place is perfectly located to give you access to the entire city, the beaches, and all the attractions. If you just want to use the bicycles they provide, you can get anywhere...
