We were not to crazy about a lot of experiences we had in Marrakesh but the staff at Riad dar Ourika were one of a kind.|I graduated out of a Austrian Hotel & Hospitality school and spent most of my life working in this industry so I have seen quiet a bit of this industry. I am still in the middle of the game so this words have meaning:|My point is: this has been one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life when it comes to customer service. This kind of staff I would expect but hardly ever get at any Five Star resort. Simon and all the people at this place where just out of this world friendly, polite and helpful at any time of the day. In Marrakesh you usually have a lot of „polite“ people around who turn out to be fake and and use you as a their wallet. |This people were really genuinely friendly and helpful and never expected anything in return. |Should you tip them. Hell yeah......tip them well, they deserve every cent.....this kind of service is rare around the globe. Did they ever ask for it in any aspect: No||Was our room perfect when we checked in ? No not at all, it was very dark, most of the bulbs were out, the TV did not work and the bathroom smelled kinda moldy but the moment we mentioned the issues they fixed everything even changed our rooms and made sure that everything was alright. |We came home from a wedding at 5:00Am and we needed water and the poor guy who slept their for security helped us out in a sec. |If you are looking for a central location in the middle of the medina which is still fairly quiet than this is the right place. I am a globe trotter who has never been to Marrakesh before though and honestly I won‘t return simply for the reason that this city is just not my thing. |The Riad Dar Ourika staff though will always stay in my mind. It was the perfect example of what customer service means. I never felt ripped of, pushed for tips or anything like that.|This 5 stars are not for Marrakesh, the culture, nor the people but solely for a nice, helpful and honest crowd of people who run this place.|I would hire every single one of them at any time because they represent pure hospitality.|Thank you Simon, I assume you are the boss and if you are not than you should be.||And by the way the fairly private breakfast was a gem and very tasty. Fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, tea or coffee, egg dishes, fresh bread as well as nice jams combined with nice pastries = all very good and served with a smile !!!!!!!!!!||My deepest respect and...
Read moreThe riad is an authentic, charming gem of a place in the old city. The service was above and beyond with Fauzi and Najid (please correct me if I’ve spelled it wrong) making our stay welcoming and filled with the classics you’d expect from a Riad. The breakfasts, taken in a tall courtyard laden with plants, changed every day with a new cake and type of pancake - which was always delicious. The friendly cat would also pay you a visit from time to time, especially at breakfast.
Fauzi and Najid walked with us out of the Riad to show us their favourite restaurants, taking time to walk us through the local customs (I.E set a price first, don’t ask for or accept directions from locals on the street, only using restaurants, police or tour guides), and annotating maps with the best sights. They were both so dutiful, and one of my favourite memories is being brought authentic Moroccan mint tea on the rooftop terrace at dusk.
In particular we built up a great rapport with Fauzi who was so lovely, genuine, kind and warm, always going out of his way to help.
The whole experience was brilliant, both Fauzi and Najid were professional even in challenging circumstances where, when the earthquake hit the city, they got us to safety and they stayed with us all night as well as getting us water and food.
Riad Dar Ourika is a stunning building, but what makes it truly memorable is Fauzi and Najid’s exceptional service.
Only thing we would say is that we found it quite difficult to find, not helped by us arriving in Marrakech at dusk. Taxis will drop you at the end of Rue dar el Bacha and tell you it’s straight ahead, but you actually need to go straight ahead, then left where the paths cross, then left down an alleyway marked Derb Ouayhah and the follow the painted signs to the Riad. Once you’ve found it,...
Read moreThis accommodation was perfect for us as a young couple on our first visit to Marrakech. When we first arrived Mostafa was really great with showing us the Riad and recommending what to do and what not to do! Without his help I think we would have had a completely different experience. The breakfast every morning was delicious, however on the 6th morning it got a bit repetitive so could include a bit more variation as a point of improvement. ||Fouzi brought us complimentary mint tea at various times on the holiday which was always well received - really nice touch!||We had dinner at the Riad one night - 3 course meal for 20 Euros each which was beautiful, and a bottle of wine. ||We didn't manage to use the pool but definitely would if we came back again in the summer. ||Mostafa helped us most days with taxis and average prices of thing so we wouldn't get ripped off lol! ||In order to get to the front door of the Riad it requires you to walk down a dark alley which was slightly daunting at first, but after we became comfortable with the location this was ok. The area is very safe but different to what we are used to. ||Overall our experience of Marrakech was made by staying at Riad Dar Ourika. We would recommend to everyone wanting to visit Marrakech and would 100% stay there again next...
