We were delighted and so happy with our choice of accommodation. We wanted our first trip to Africa to be authentic and this Riad was one of the best choices we made. It is NOT a standard hotel like we usually stay and I loved the authenticity and charm as well as the obvious pride the owner and staff took in caring for this lovely property. |The staff was the shining star of our stay. The manager, Ahmed, arranged everything we wanted. He arranged our pickup at the airport as well as someone to meet us and transfer our bags to the Riad upon arrival in the old town. It was a small walk through the charming old streets late at night so we were very glad of the help. He arranged two tours for us, a desert adventure and a tour of the highlights of the city andthe souq by tuck tuck. We had him set up a visit to the on site Hamman and a massage (both services done by two lovely sisters who did a GREAT job) as well as dinner on two nights in the Riad and a reservations at a nearby restaurant. The Riad is perfectly located to explore Marrakech. The rooms are lovely and authentic art work of northern Africa was everywhere. The bed was comfy, the AC worked well, bathroom amenities were good and the whole Riad was well maintained and kept very clean. This was accomplished by three lovely ladies Karima, Fatima and Khallka. Dont be suprised if they bring you a delicious glass of iced tea when you are at the pool for a dip. The breakfast was cooked by their chef, Aicho, who also made our dinners. She is a great cook and her french toast was the hit of our morning. She kindly instructed me on her technique so I could delight my grand children when I got home. Last but not least was Abdullah. He is the night manager and helped us so much during our stay. His lovely smile and gracious service were heart felt and we felt so valued by all of the staff during our stay. I recommend Riad 144 and hope to visit...
Read moreStayed at Riad 144 in the moucharabieh suite. The Riad is situated in the North of the Medina, conveniently for an ATM, taxi rank (although we never used the Taxis as found it more enjoyable to walk everywhere even taking a stroll to the new city centre and mall) and local shops/restaurants. The room was excellent large bath and very high rain shower ( water pressure isn't great its certainly adequate and to be expected ) with a nice seating area and a 2nd sleeping area with a futon up some stairs towards the back of the room. The facilities of the Riad were very good, plunge pool, courtyard seating areas. Rooftop terraces with multiple chairs/tables and lounges on various levels. Although what made the stay truly special for us was Ahmed and the team, nothing was too much trouble for them, and kudos for Ahmeds arrival brief where after a welcome drink and chill he took us on a tour of the riad, went through the facilities and then sat down with us and annotated a map explaining the things to do in Marrakech, including local restaurants and cafes. I would recommend using their airport pick up service ( 1 tip if you don't have roaming data make sure you message to say you have arrived and where you will meet driver before exiting the airport doors as the free airport WiFi was very patchy after the exit,) as the taxi will only take you so far and there are a few alleys to traverse to get to the Riad. I would also recommend booking a rooftop meal at least once during your stay, we chose first day as knew we would be tired from traveling, the food was homecooked and fantastic. They do have limited options for alcohol eg wine and beers, and although we occasionally partook , found the pulped cold orange juice much more refreshing. My partner also opted for a hamman and massage on our penultimate day and was very impressed. We would certainly stay again if we...
Read moreI stayed in the Carbon room, from the first night the entire room smelled like sewage, the next morning I reported it to Ahmed the manager and he immediately called the attention of the cleaner, however the bad smell persisted throughout our stay since it was not a cosmetic problem that could be solved by pouring air freshener down the drain, it was a structural problem, they did not even offer me a room change or anything. On our last night at the Riad we arrived to our room late around 9:30 pm and the first thing I noticed was that the lock on my suitcase had been broken into, I immediately opened it and saw all my clothes in disarray and unfortunately there were missing 650 USD. I immediately went down to report what had happened to Abdul and immediately all the nice faces and cordiality disappeared, I asked him to inform Ahmed and I also wrote to him directly but he never answered me nor did he want to show his face. I had to leave the riad very early the next day because I had a scheduled transfer to Essaouira, and I left with the promise of a solution, which never came. They never wanted to take responsibility for the incident and assured me that my daughter had taken them to buy an iPhone. Ridiculous!! After my stay in Essaouira, I decided to go to the police to file a report so that these things wouldn't happen again. It's also worth mentioning that the riad is located in a less than safe area. One day, we made a mistake and turned onto a street and ran into some drug dealers. They looked at us and told us we had no business there and to turn back. Another night, we also ran into a group of young men who tried to rob us. First, they tell you that the street you want to take is closed and that you'd better go where they tell you to. If you fall into their trap, you're in their hands. The Carbon room is so noisy that is very...
