Famous House Kathmandu — Hotel in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

It's a good place for backpackers, clean and cheap. When you come in, staff welcome you with a smile... but this might change easily if you don't contract a tour with them.

Some of the men who hang around at the top floor restaurant try to arrange tours with guests. One of them has his own desk in the same hall as the reception is. We refused to contract his services as we just wanted to know the prices of some tours (he asked around 200-250 dollars pp).

The day after, we wanted to extend our stay here... the girl at the reception was tense and avoiding eye contact... so awkward! She said she wasn't sure if they will have availability... meanwhile, the tour-guy was at his desk watching loud videos..

Later we checked in Agoda and Booking and they had so many rooms available for...

I have been been traveling for 8 months and I have never felt like home in a hostel until I stayed at Famous House! As for me it wins at all my requirements : cleanliness, fantastic location, flexible and friendly staff, and the best "mountain breakfast" it is located 5 mins at way from Thamel in a local neighborhood with convenient stored near by, best chai shops, local restaurants with delicious momo, Indian and british embassy, all in walking distance. Moreover, it is so quiet and peaceful! The owner and his staff will make you feel as a part of the family. They welcome travelers with a huge smile and tea, ready to share with you about their culture. I am endlessly thankful for...

Sanjay and Neema were really amazing from the moment I got here. Stayed here for a few nights and really enjoyed the stay. Good location, for a private room it was better priced than Thamel and just a 5 min walk away really. There’s a rooftop restaurant where you can chill out during the day as well. The staff is really friendly and the common areas and bathrooms are kept clean. There are also a few shops right downstairs and you can get a litter of water for 10 NPR in the lobby which is really convenient. What I liked about the room is that there are many outlets to charge any device and there I a nice working but quiet fan in the room!!!
