Last night, before starting the 14-day EBC trek where the diet would mostly be Dal Bhat and maybe momos, we decided to dine authentic Nepali cuisine. We went to Khohang and ordered their 6-course set menu, which was a delightful introduction to Thakali flavors. Thakali cuisine originates from the Thak Khola region in Mustang, a high-altitude district in Nepal known for its rich culinary heritage. The meal began with a shot of Raksi, a traditional distilled millet liquor, followed by two starters: crispy Kanchepa (buckwheat flour bites) and steamed momos. For the soup, I chose the nettle leaves soup, which was both comforting and unique. The main Thali featured perfectly steamed rice, black lentil dal, a flavorful vegetable curry, fresh green spinach, fermented dry mustard leaves, and achar (pickle). I opted for the mutton curry, which was tender and rich in spices, complementing the rest of the meal beautifully. To finish, we had Juju Dhau, the famous creamy curd from Bhaktapur, and a cup of Chiya, a spiced Nepali masala tea. The servers were friendly, polite, and attentive throughout the evening, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. On the second floor, there was live entertainment that added a lively cultural touch to the atmosphere. Khohang offers generous portions and an authentic taste of traditional Thakali cuisine,. It was a perfect, hearty meal to fuel up before...
Read moreWe discovered KhoHang Taste of Thakali almost by chance while walking through the streets of Kathmandu, and it turned out to be one of the best surprises of our trip. The authentic atmosphere and warm welcome impressed us right away.
The restaurant offers a wide range of traditional Nepalese dishes, carefully prepared with quality ingredients. In the evening, in addition to a delicious dinner, there is also the opportunity to watch traditional dance performances for a small fee of 500 rupees, making the experience even more engaging.
The service was impeccable: the staff was attentive, polite, and ready to recommend the best dishes. The cleanliness of the restaurant stands out, both in the bathrooms and in the kitchen, a detail that does not go unnoticed.
We started our dinner with an appetizer KANCHEMPA recommended by the waiter and continued with two chicken DAL-BHAT, which were the best we had during our entire stay in Nepal. The flavors were authentic and well-balanced, leaving us fully satisfied.
Our only regret was discovering this place on the last night of our trip. If we had more time, we would have definitely returned to try more dishes from the menu.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience traditional Nepalese flavors in a welcoming and genuine...

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that made me feel right at home. The spices were perfectly balanced, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. You can tell that a lot of love and care goes into preparing each meal, and it certainly pays off.
What truly stood out, however, was the personal touch from the owner. They took the time to interact with guests, ensuring everyone was satisfied and comfortable, which made the experience feel even more special. It's rare to find such a welcoming and genuine atmosphere in a restaurant, and I truly appreciated the kindness and attention to detail that made the place feel like a second home.
