Happy Donkey Hostel — Hotel in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

I had a one month stay at Happy Donkey Hostel and I just love this place! ❤️‍🔥

The location is excellent - quiet street very near to hectic Thamel. The facilities are clean and cozy. They have private rooms and dorm. Hot water shower is available. The common areas are lively and perfect for socializing and meeting new people.

Absolutely delicious food plus the delightful BBQ party held every Friday. It was great to have such a variety of options available while staying at the hostel. The provision of free drinking water is a thoughtful touch, ensuring guests don’t buy plastic bottles every day.

But what truly sets this hostel apart is the amazing team of guys who run the place. Their warm hospitality and genuine care for the guests made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. They are always available to help and also create a fun and friendly atmosphere. The hostel is filled with laughter, positive energy, and fascinating conversations. It truly felt like a big family 🤗

The main impression I got from staying at this hostel was: noise. The hostel shares its courtyard with a local restaurant, and there’s music playing in the yard all day long. Some long-term guests were extremely noisy — they made phone calls and watched movies with the speaker on in the dorm room, shouted out to people in the courtyard, and even startled me several times while I wasn’t even asleep.

They also practiced with their band in the courtyard. Yes, the music was actually quite good, and sometimes I didn’t mind being a free audience. But please, not past midnight — honestly, I already found it too late when they played past 10 p.m. The owner of the place didn’t seem to manage them at all — maybe because they are long-term guests and the ones he prefers to host.

What’s worse, these long-term guests would come in and out of the dorm late at night without any consideration — turning on the lights, leaving them on, and not even bothering to close the door. The lack of curtains on the beds makes it even harder to sleep under...

Cozy place uniting together hostel and cafe. Has a nice yard, the terrace on 2-nd floor, large chill out zone. Outdoor kitchen provides you watching cooks making your meals. The dorms are clean, beds are really big and comfortable. Bathrooms are also operational and clean. Hosts always keep the space tidy. Place has a lot of plants and flowers. Design is executed by many guest artist from all over the world. Often live music/jams are performed in the common area. Staff is kind, friendly and executive, helping you in any question.
