We hardly ever bad review anyone but 10% service charge is optional and not mandatory in Nepal, so this experience must be shared.
Would have given all 5 stars if not for the experience we had tonight.
We have visited Kathmandu numerous times and Third Eye Restaurant has always been our favorite place to eat. In fact, this is our second time dining here this week, and we had a great meal with great service, that is, until the bill came.
When the server presented the bill that totaled at 8500 NPR, (food and drinks 7500 NPR plus 13% VAT), he “politely” said that even though the bill showed 8500 rupees, it should actually be 9000 something, as the 10% service charge was not on the bill. He even got the nerve to show us a copy of the photo menu which has a small line written on the bottom about 10% service charge being mandatory.
When we told him that we have never been asked for a mandatory service charge in any of our visits to Third Eye Restaurant, nor the Roadhouse just across the street, nor any restaurants here in Nepal, and that we have eaten here just a few days ago and has added over 10% tips without being asked, he quickly backed off and said he was sorry and the service charge has been removed.
We have always believed that servers who did a good job should be rewarded, but trying to scam unwary customers by trying to add a so-called mandatory service charge is totally unacceptable and a disgrace to such a great restaurant.
It takes years to build a reputation but dishonesty...
Read moreStarting with starters for thalis I had great optimism for food to follow which didn't end up amount to nothing to what starters gave , filling for steak wasn't good mashed potato was very mediocre then both main dishes in veg and non veg thalis didn't amount to anything the main thing rice felt uncooked some part of Mix veg felt not cooked enough and same thing goes for mutton and gravy being sweet at last the dessert felt the chef made it first time being failed attempt . But where the appreciation can be given are Dal and starters and some what mixveg dish that's all not much of a good experience. And lookin onto the service most had to find waiter or literally had to wait for long and we asked for extra spoons that to had to ask for again and again and at last the most basic thing didn't even asked for water. Not worth...
Read moreHopeless place to visit for your Indian cuisine food requirements. Totally wastage of money , exorbitantly high prices for this quality of food. Under baked Naans and Roties were served. Really we felt cheated looking at the consistency and preparation when Dal and Mutton was served to us. Our advice would be no one should ever visit this place in search of good Indian cuisine with genuine taste. One can have a far better food at a normal roadside Dhaba in much much lesser price. Please don't get attracted by just looking at the ambience of this place because quality and taste of food is what we look for in a good restaurant. overall very bad experience this is the place only for those foreigners who do not know much about Indian cuisine , preparation and...
