I will start with the main negative point to this hotel. The bar / restaurant staff member, we had been for lunch and a few cocktails at the hotel bar we then went and wondered the market and did some shopping in the near by streets. When we returned we decided we would have another cocktail before going back up to our room. So we sat down on an empty outside table put all our bags on the chair (which included pack of stoopwaffles we brought from the near by shop) I went into the bar to order the drinks and my husband waited outside. A male worker then came outside so I followed and I said hi are you able to take our drink order he then aggressively proceeded to tell us we couldn’t sit there and to go away! So we asked why and he said you have food there pointing to our stroopwaffles and he said this is a restaurant now go away, I then said excuse me we are guests he we have just returned from shopping and we’re planing to have a drink prior to returning to our room. The male worker was not interested and just said you can’t sit there go away in an extremely rude manner, it left us feeling really quite intimidated and embarrassed in the place that we had to sleep. I do understand the place may have a no food policy however I don’t believe any one should be treated so aggressively and confrontational and we also not sat there eating any food there was just some gifts from location shops. We obviously left the restaurant area and then when we got to reception we asked to complain about how we were just treated and they just said ah it will be because you had food and were also not interested, the concierge who over heard the conversation was however lovely and said to us I am so sorry for the way you have been treated. Room was nice but they are small rooms for 2 people , for example if you were sat at the desk another person can not then walk past and you would have to climb over the bed or move. I also slightly question the cleanliness , our sink would not drain and then when I pulled the plug section there was a clump of blonde hair which was not ours (we are both brunette). The lobby areas and breakfast areas were all lovely. The breakfast spread was perfect. The location was fantastic and if it wasn’t for the service and treatment we recieved by the restaurant and reception the stay would of been...
Read moreAfter having stayed in multiple 4* NH hotels in Spain, the NH Carlton is not even close to a 4*. I'll just summarise into two lists:
The good parts: Great location and everything is within walking distance (10 minute walk to the Amsterdam square, 15 minute bike ride to Vondelpark, 30 second walk to one of the canals near the hotel to explore) The ability to leave bags until check in/after check out for free is a plus Lobby is smart but small, but there's an effort made to leave out little sweets and water for visitors Great transport links
The bad parts (and there's a few that bring this hotel to a 2*: The rooms are horribly outdated, smelly and lack appeal. We walked into our room and there was this awful stale smell (close to sweat or bio) and stains all over the carpet. Customer service is okay, not great, but it's okay. We were given the wrong room to begin with. A lot of effort has been put into the lobby, but not the upstairs. The halls are dark and dingey and again, outdated. It also has a damp smell and twice we walked out to the lifts to find a group of 10 people eating around the lifts area leaving food and wrappers everywhere. Cleaners are awful, in fact, the room smelt worse after the cleaner had been in our room. And the beds were left how we made them, with just a few bits and pieces moved around and sides dusted, that's it. It's expensive and over-priced. Most NH hotels offer a good semi-luxurious stay for a 4* with a great selection of amenities, well lit rooms and great customer service. With this hotel, I was left really underwhelmed.
And that concludes my review. If you can find somewhere for the same price point I would. For a 4* you would expect a lot better. But if you are looking for somewhere just to drop your bags and sleep rather than spend time in your room, then this may (or may not) be the place for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreDont go there This Hotel is the third we stayed at from Nh Hotels selection in Amsterdam. We stayed there between 25.4-2.5/2022. Generally we were satisfy from our stay BUT WE WILL NEVER VISIT IT AGAIN DUE TO POOR HYGIENE STANDARDS. We left our room after making sure the clean my room sign was on. We also threw towel and sheets on the floor, as the hotel guide if you wish it to be replaced. We visited our room around 15:00 and found out that the towels were replaced, but other then that NOTHING!! The sheets, covers and duvet was not replaced, dirty dishes all over the room and the floor was dirty. We noticed the cleaning crew is still on the floor so we kindly asked them to come and see, hoping they will solve the problem on the spot. BOY, WE WERE WRONG. The crew went in the room, we showed them all we mentioned above but instead of fixing it, one guy told us we need wash the dishes on our own and that we need to pay for new sheets, Raising his voice and talking to his colleague in dutch (probably swearing us). We called the reception and were told it will be taken care and that the guy was wrong We went out and came back around 18:00 and nothing was done We calles again they sent a nice woman to clean. We went out AGAIN. Came in the room around 20:30 and she was still there...told us she is about to finish. Around 20:45 she said she did. We asked if she replaced THE SHEETS THAT WERE ON THE FLOOR AND SHE TOLD US "I DIDN'T KNOW I SHOULD". She brought new sheets eventually and around 21:15 we got to have a clean The next day we had coffee spilled on the bed so they replaced it The next day we requested not to change sheets... The day after we did... again....they didn't... again... they sent someone and we had to leave the room and come...
