During our recent visit to Amsterdam, we had the pleasure of dining at The Seafood Bar located at Spui, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in a charming and central square, just a short walk from Dam Square, the location is ideal—close to the city’s main attractions yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Here, you find a more refined crowd enjoying the tranquil ambiance. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Vito and Angelo, two exceptional employees of the restaurant who made our dining experience all the more special. Vito, being Italian like myself, went out of his way to make us feel right at home, explaining the menu in detail and guiding us through the best seafood options. His friendliness and professionalism really stood out, and we felt like we were in expert hands throughout the evening. The food itself was a seafood lover’s dream. We started with perfectly seared scallops and succulent shrimps, followed by a melt-in-your-mouth crab cake that was bursting with flavor. For the main course, we indulged in a grilled seafood platter and a tender, buttery lobster that was cooked to perfection. Every bite was fresh and full of the sea’s essence. To top off the meal, we couldn’t resist a slice of their creamy cheesecake, followed by a refreshing sgroppino and a traditional limoncello—the perfect finish to an exquisite dinner. What really sets The Seafood Bar apart, beyond the outstanding food, is the attention to detail and the warm, attentive service. Vito and Angelo elevated the entire experience, making us feel welcome and cared for, and their passion for their work truly shines through. Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner or a refined night out with friends, The Seafood Bar at Spui is a must-visit. Exceptional seafood, impeccable service, and a prime location in the heart of Amsterdam without the chaos—this place has it all. Highly recommended!

Seafood Bar Amsterdam Review Hitting a Homerun It’s always problematic finding great restaurants in places with a lot of tourists. I’d done it before in places like Venezia and even here in Amsterdam, but this time, the pressure was on, as I was showing Amsterdam to my Vietnamese wife and she was hungry, so I could spend an hour getting off the beaten track. She is also the best cook I’ve ever known, which also makes her extremely picky and as always, she wants her hard-earned money to be well spent. I was also under time pressure, having arrived from Helmond by train around noon. So, I had to resort to Google Maps and its tourist derived reviews with all the pitfalls that entails. I found the Seafood Bar. It was relatively close, and the pictures and reviews seemed really good. From Beginning to end, this lunch and experience, could not have been better. The staff was attentive, without being annoying. The food was exquisite, perfect. We got the mixed grill for two, everything in it was perfectly done, perfectly seasoned and perfectly presented. The Albarino went perfectly with the seafood. All in all, I could not have hoped for a better outcome. Getting back to Helmond that evening where we were staying with long time friends, in recounting our experience, I was shocked to learn that the owner of the Seafood Bar, was the very same owner of “De Visscher Seafood” a place in the center of Helmond that had been my favorite and only seafood destination since the 1994. Thirty years later, sadly De Visscher is closed in Helmond, but the owner has expanded and knows his seafood. The price was good, in fact, in Austin, Texas or NYC, such quality and execution would cost twice as much. Give this place a try if you want a fantastic seafood experience. You won’t be disappointed.

Very disappointed on this restaurant. This is my first time to comment the restaurant on Google and given with 1 star. This is my first time been to Amsterdam with family and we booked this restaurant for celebrating our anniversary , we found this restaurant because they got 4.6 stars on Google , however, it’s a scam, we ordered the Seafood Combination shown on the menu which is means combined the seafoods in (FRUITS DE MER ‘THE SEAFOOD BAR and Mixed Grill) which listed on the menu, the seafood combination for 2 person is €92.50 , as we have 3 person , then the waitress recommended us to order for 3 person which is €138 , however, the platter only got 2 oysters, half lobsters , 2 king prawns, one little carb claw and snow crab leg which the portion like for 2 person, other seafood (calms, mussels, shrimps are tiny) , only the grill fish fillets *salmon & sea bass fillets*) is enough for 3 person, and the taste is just normal. How can we share 2 oysters, half little lobster and one snow crab leg for 3 person? It’s a scam, I have asked for the staff why we only got 2 very small oysters for 3 person and they said NOT all the seafoods listed in the (FRUITS DE MER ‘THE SEAFOOD BAR and Mixed Grill) will put into this *seafood combination* , and not all of the seafood will give you the potion for 3 person!!! It doesn’t make sense for the customers to pay for 3 person but the food portion is for 2 person, it’s just like a scam!! Also, we don’t have the same service with other local people, the other people got very nice service , they got the disposal gloves, apron and wet swipe when having the seafood, but we haven’t got one of that, NOT recommend for everyone to have seafood in this restaurant.

The #1 spot on my list of restaurants to check out in Amsterdam and it did not disappoint. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon without any reservations - place was fairly empty but quickly filled up. Shoutout to Alexis from Namibia who really took care of us - she was extremely proactive and observant in requesting the kitchen to split our single order of soup into two bowls and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal 🥲 thank you for making it memorable for us! 1 pax chilled seafood platter came with 10 types of seafood! Oysters, clams, cockles, mussels, half a whole brown crab, periwinkles, seaweed, chopped crab salad, razor clams, two types of shrimp and prawns, and crawfish. For €36 this was WORTH IT. What stood out was the fact that several of the shellfish were cooked separately and chilled - the clams, cockles and mussels had their own seasoning that differed from each other. Usually most restaurants I’ve been to would cook / steam it all either simple salt and nothing else. Here, they bothered to flavour each item on its own. Of all the shellfish, only a single clam had grit inside - all others were super clean and fresh. Other dishes we ordered were the lobster soup (tasted light and thin though the 4 pieces of lobster claw meat were tender), grilled scallops and grilled king prawns. The latter two items were cooked well and delicious!

The service was extremely ridiculous! My wife and I ordered “Non-alcoholic “ Chardonnay and “Non-alcoholic” Bavaria IPA, BUT the female waiter Alexis gave us the ALCOHOLIC ones, and we didn’t even know and drank them all! My wife can’t have alcoholic drinks because she is pregnant (told by our doctor), and I also can’t have alcohol drinks because of personal health conditions! Thank you so much for ruining our first day in Holland(first time in Holland as well) When we told the female waiter what happened in the end, she just said, oh I’m sorry, without offering any compensations! Now my wife and I are feeling super dizzy and uncomfortable! Highly recommended if you want to be treated like this! Will NEVER come back cuz the service totally sucks! By the way, we saw the female waiter asking other customers(not Asians) around us several times that is everything ok? BUT we were NOT treated the same way, the waiter acted like we were invisible and NEVER asked us that if everything is okay or not , AND even the receptionist treated us so indifferently without having a smile on her face or saying Hi when we just walked in and said good afternoon with big smiles, and NOT even a see you or goodbye when we left! Not sure if it’s because we are Asians so that we were treated so rudely and unceremoniously! The only good thing is that the food was not bad.
