This is by far the worst place with the rudest personal we have ever encountered (had to rate one star as 0 stars was not an option!) After being denied a table for 6 while there were empty tables available, we decided to try again and offered to sit in two different tables inside (to comply to their comment about a "large group and lack of larger tables"). After a few minutes -and a few eye rolls from the personnel- we were asked to sit in a table that was not cleaned up yet, even when no other table was being used at that time. Once seated, the waiter ended up telling us to leave because we "were not asking nice enough" to have the table clean. Given that our group was international, one can't help to wonder if ethnicity had any role to plan with this extremely rude behaviour. We were still able to fluently communicate with them in Dutch but still got the same unapologetic and rude response (and even got two different waiters turning their back on us). Having visited several restaurants and cafes in the city, this utterly rude and unpleasant behaviour is still quite shocking. Needless to say, we cannot recommend this place at all, just a few steps away you can find many other options when you can expect to be treated much...
Read moreThe service was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. The waitress was shockingly rude to our table the entire night, she was incredibly impatient and aggressive with us, and made unnecessary comments and faces when we were ordering drinks. It was clear she did not want to be there. We were celebrating a birthday and the person whose birthday it was asked if he could get a discount or a dessert when we were paying. The waitress said she would have given him something if he hadn't asked (which I doubt), but since he had, it was a principle thing and she is not going to bring him any cake. We politely explained it was a cultural difference and normal in his country so he didn't realise it's different here. She said 'well, we are not in his country, we are in the Netherlands', and stormed off. We were stunned. No person should be treated like this, let alone customers at a restaurant you work at. I have only been treated kindly by locals since moving to Amsterdam. I will never return here and I will advise others...
Read moreWe were walking around the area and came across herengracht. The front area of the restaurant was full so I took it as a good sign. The waiter said there’s a table upstairs (just a few steps up from the main dining area) and I thought, they’re probably going to forget about us. After reading the reviews here about the service, I was starting to regret not doing enough research.
Good thing I didn’t, because there are only 2 waiters that night but both are very attentive and came up to our table a few times to check if we needed anything.
We asked what was good and the waiter recommended the chicken and the dorado fish. We also wanted to try something “local” so we ordered bitterballen as starter. Our waiter even recommended opening the biterballen as they are quite hot. So considerate! Both mains are quite good.
The service was really good, not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Don’t let it deter you. The two wait staff are very friendly and efficient. If the weather is nice, try to get a table in...
