We have booked the Wynhan Garden Queenstown hotel to pamper ourselves for the last day of our stay before flying back to reality.
We chose Wynham for its close proximity to the airport as we have a very early morning flight out from Queenstown.
We were slightly early for check in, and they managed to secure us a room up on the higher floors of the hotel. The receptionist was also kind enough to allow us to temporary park our campervan at the hotel lobby for us to unload our luggage before returning our rental campervan nearby.
The view from our hotel room was really beautiful, apart from the construction site below our hotel, we can see the nearby Coronet Peak from where we are sleeping, such beauty to behold.
The bedroom is well designed, and they have small little smart gestures to make your stay more enjoyable.
We are impressed with the heated towel rack, which gave us nice dry and warm towel for the next use, and the shampoo/conditioner and body foam was the nicest smelling we`ve came across till date, the other hotel gave mostly horrible smelling ones, and we do not usually use the shampoo or body foam normally, but this we like.
The bed was comfy and fluffy which we like, after our 2weeks long sleep in the campervan this felt like cloud 9.
The aircon placement is kinda strange as it was installed after the main door and shower door and the aircon is blowing towards the adjacent wall, and not towards the bed room area, nevertheless it wasn't a deal breaker.
We liked the wooden room door card which was issued rather than use of plastic.
The hotel is actually within walking distance to nearby Hunting and Fishing shop and Torpedo7 situated among the eateries to keep our belly filled with good food.
We did not really hear much of the airplanes/helicopter taking off or landing despite being pretty close to the airport/private operator of scenic flight tour operator in the vicinity thus ensuring a good sleep.
Due to a shortage of manpower, the hotel reception was unmanned from the evening time till next morning, and the hotel main glass sliding door requires the guest to tap on the card reader before allowing entry back into the hotel after certain hours.
In all, we would come back and...
Read moreHaving stayed before we knew what to expect, but this time was a real disappointment, compared to stays.||The major issue was trying to get in to the hotel. Even though this is a hotel – there were no staff anywhere. At 8:15 pm we arrived in the dark and couldn’t get in the front doors until another guest staying, let us in. There was also another solo lady trying to get inside to check into the hotel as well. There was a sign on the desk saying to use the intercom outside or ring their phone number, all three of us tried the phone number – sounded like it was ringing in the office but no one answered. ||To go outside to use the intercom, the doors shut and you couldn’t get back in, when we went to the intercom outside there was no lighting above it and the button is worn so it was very hard to see how to use it in the dark.||Finally, after half a dozen phone calls and 10 minutes, someone answered the phone and gave us lock codes to open a box and get our passes, but it was still very hard to see. It was not very pleasant way to check in and the lady on her own said she was very grateful as she couldn’t have done it on her own in the dark and didn’t feel safe.||Got into our room – small but the bathroom was even smaller. You had to shimmy around the door and squeeze between that and the basin to get around to the toilet. ||One of the towels was torn and old – shouldn’t have been out for guests to use.|Unfortunately, it didn’t get much better this stay, the bed was rockhard with a thick ridge in the middle where the two beds were pushed together – no topper pad. There were clumps of something on the carpet, hadn’t been vacuumed. Overall just very unkempt.||We slept four hours as we were so uncomfortable. Left at 7:45am there were still no staff...
Read moreTerrible experience. I arrived at 950 pm to find the “hotel” deserted with no staff in sight. Pressed the intercom which finally was answered after the second attempt. The recorded message lied and said that reception was staffed until 10pm when it was clearly before then and no one was around. I was told by the after hours phone responder to enter a code in a drop box to collect my key expecting the door to be opened and access to be granted. He hung up. Nothing happened. Door remained firmly shut. Not ideal. Tried to contact 2 more times with no response. Some kind guest let me in and showed me where the drop boxes were on the other side of the hotel at a totally different entrance which might have been helpful to know when receiving instructions. Finally got to my room and both usb charging sockets on the click radio were stuffed so I was unable to charge any devices. I again contacted the after hours service to request a replacement or a charger to enable me to charge my devices. I would not think it was unreasonable to expect the room devices to be working given the amount paid for the room. Again the after hours receptionist contacted the duty manager who decided it was clearly beneath them to assist a guest at night so they told me nothing could be done until morning which was completely unhelpful and pointless as I needed to use a charger then to ensure that I woke up on time. What a total joke. This place has appalling after hours service. It is not a hotel but a semi serviced lot of very basic rooms with bed, tv, shower and a kettle. Save your money and stay somewhere they actually care about keeping their customers happy as...
