My son and I travelled up from the Bay to watch the Shen Yun dance company on their recent visit to NZ. We left the car at the Atrium Carpark, which is conveniently located just around the corner from this venue and reasonable (for Auckland), at $12 after 6pm. Just to note too: There were lots of available parks when we arrived just after 6. And, exiting the CBD after the event was relatively easy. Some have complained about this, when trying to exit from the Civic carpark building. The place was bustling with people before the show. The bar was humming but well staffed. The weather wasn’t too flash so the coat room was getting it’s fair share of business. The toilets..spacious, modern and well maintained. This venue has multiple levels. We were a stones throw from the orchestra and getting to our seats was easy with multiple attendants on hand. The acoustics are really good here. The performance involved an interactive screen and the digital graphics were weaved seamlessly into the performance throughout. The colourful, flowing costumes, the agile dancers, the beautiful choreography, the classical singers, the musicianship, the stories that unfolded… A true feast for the senses. We loved it. If I had one criticism? The seats. It would be nice to have a place to pop goodies (snacks, drinks), while enjoying the performance. Actually I have one more: If you want to just drink booze, go to a pub and drink and talk and whatever else. Nobody wants to listen to you slurring your words and pashing your ‘appointment’, with such a brilliant performance as Shen Yun lol! I’m glad I was in between my son and those 2 hangi pants. Anyway, having an expressway that now reaches from Cambridge to the Bombays makes events in Auckland even more enticing! Will definitely be...
Read moreWe can’t wait to see Dionne Warwick tonight and we paid lots of money to see this .. we know she can do great music, as we grew up with her songs!!!! Unfortunately , a short old lady , with glasses that works at the venue tonight, humiliated us in the middle of the concert and she said we take so much video- you know what I took a quick one .. honestly we are not there to take videos - we are there to listen to her music! I noticed that lots of people are taking videos but she didn’t do anything - why us? That lady should not be working on theses kind of event if she would discriminate customer! All we know is she is wrong and we didn’t take a long video! She is very disappointing .. we are in door A close to the front! I think who ever managed these events should train your staff how to talk to people! She is an older lady short with glasses and she is the one .. in door A there’s a young girl and this one is the older one and short! She needs to be trained. Again we paid a lot of money to see this event and enjoy it not to...
Read moreThe seating wasn't tiered. That meant those in front blocked your view more than they used to in theaters such as His Majesty's and the Civic of old. A lot of the mechanics or lighting are visible to the audience . Once upon a time the audience didn't have to see this. The floors were scratched. Common, far too common for the name of Kiri Te Kanawa and Auckland. The show 'Enua was fantastic. Plastic cups for wine? My wife picked up the 'glass' and it folded in her hands. Whatever happened to the ratepayers money? It took half an hour to get from the car park to the exit and then the damned software could not read our number plate. Go back to the paper ticket please. Too many unnegotoable red cones around the streets and that blocked road up by the civic not allowing cars is preposterous. The show was excellent but Auckland CBD as a venue has much...
