Tacoteca is an absolute gem that I stumbled upon recently, and I cannot recommend it enough. From the moment you step inside, you are transported to a world of authentic Mexican ambiance that sets the perfect backdrop for an incredible dining experience. The food at Tacoteca is simply outstanding. The guacamole and chips are on a whole other level - I'm not sure what they do, but it's like they've added a touch of magic to make it the best I've ever had. The smoky flavor adds an extra dimension that truly elevates the dish. When it comes to drinks, I highly recommend trying the Herradura Plata Tequila Margarita. It's the perfect balance of flavors and pairs beautifully with the bold and vibrant Mexican cuisine. As for the food, the lamb tacos are an absolute must-try. The flavors are incredible, and the tender meat melts in your mouth. And if you're feeling adventurous, don't miss out on the beef suadero - it's a true delight that will leave you craving for more. The staff at Tacoteca are super attentive and provide excellent service. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist you with any inquiries or recommendations you may need. The speed at which the food is served is impressive, ensuring that you can enjoy your meal without any unnecessary delays. In summary, Tacoteca is a hidden gem that offers an authentic ambiance, incredible food, and attentive service. From the mind-blowing guacamole and chips to the mouthwatering lamb tacos and beef suadero, every bite is a taste sensation. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience, I highly recommend visiting Tacoteca.

Such a bummer because I love this place and it’s fantastic for GF food, but I had a really unpleasant experience here today. I ordered the mushroom tacos which are listed on the menu as having halloumi. I have ordered these several times in the past and they have always come with visible slabs of halloumi. They arrived without it today and when I asked if they came with halloumi, the guy who brought them sort of looked around for a minute and pointed at them and went “yeah that’s all halloumi” (at the cheese on top of them, which was definitely something like queso fresco and not at all like halloumi. I eat a lot of halloumi as a vegetarian and knew what I was looking at wasn’t halloumi). I thought he might have been saying it was under some of the other ingredients but took them apart and there was none. I know it’s a small thing, but if he had said, “oh oops they forgot it, let me get you a side” or “oh sorry we’re out, let me take a bit off the price” I would have really appreciated it. I almost never leave negative reviews but it was such a bummer to leave feeling taken for a ride over something so trivial and paying $9 a taco for it not to have the protein listed. Unrelated but the lava cake is one of the best desserts in Auckland especially for GF. Potato taquitos also great. Just really not ideal that the server made this up to cover a kitchen mistake, or maybe just genuinely didn’t realize it wasn’t halloumi? Could have been a training issue maybe?

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a review but this was too good not to share. The mastermind of La Fuente, Edmundo and team, have opened the next big thing, Tacoteca. Already on opening week, they have had sell out days, being non-stop from 4pm, and running out of their pork al pastor before 7pm! Make sure you book ahead! In true style, there is an abundant list of margaritas including a “no mez cal”, and plenty of options for those with dietary restrictions, whether that be vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free or have a nut allergy. With Edmundo’s extensive knowledge of wines and mezcal, if you’re not too sure what to have, entrust his expertise - you’ll never be disappointed. And if you have something you like, you can always pop over to La Fuente to grab a bottle to take home. • Tommy’s - herradura plata, chinola liquor • Malinche - yoowe, fresh lime juice, black lime & habanero salt • Chilaquiles + chorizo - this ended being a nice surprise and our favourite dish of the night • Fish taco • Beef suadero taco • Lamb barbacoa taco We both left in good spirits, excited to share the new opening with others. Congrats! ¡Salud!

I recently dined at Tacoteca, and I can confidently say it’s a gem in Auckland’s food scene. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between lively and relaxed, with a vibrant, colorful decor that sets the mood for a memorable experience. The staff were attentive and friendly, and their passion for the food and culture was evident in every interaction.

The tacos were the stars of the night—authentic, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. Each taco had its own unique twist, and the variety was impressive, from classic carnitas to a delightful veggie option. The ingredients tasted fresh and well-prepared, and the tortillas were soft, warm, and delicious. I also tried their homemade salsas, which added just the right kick without overpowering the flavors.

One thing that stood out was the attention to detail, not just in the food but in the presentation and service. They even have a great selection of drinks that pair beautifully with the food. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality.

If you’re looking for a spot that delivers on flavor, authenticity, and atmosphere, Tacoteca is a must-visit. Highly recommend for anyone craving exceptional tacos and a...
