15 Soles for a bed in a dorm. ||||The Good:||||I stayed here for a couple of weeks while I arranged a purchase of a motorcycle. The staff are friendly and easy going and allowed me to park my motorbike in their fairly restricted passageway. The location is away from the city centre and is not touristic. Along the street and around the corner on Meloc are plenty of Pizzerias, Laundries, a Supermarket and the superb JC's Cafe. There appear to be 2 bathrooms on each floor and bathroom use wasn't a problem. There was always piping hot water for a shower but the toilets appeared to leak slightly in the bathrooms on the top floor. The patio on the top gave excellent views across Cusco and is quiet and secluded. There were only two chairs, a table and a small bench though but consequently, I met a few great people there when intending to sit there alone for contemplation and other guests having got there first. Access is 24 hours a day. and the dorm was spacious. It looks like breakfast is provided for a small fee but I went to JC's Cafe every morning at the end of the street.||||The Not So Good:||||I was in the top 8 bed dorm at the front of the building. The bed was clean and comfortable and mostly there were only 2 or 3 people staying but occasionally a group of 2 to 4 would arrive in the middle of the night. The floor is wooden so it's hard for people to move around without making a noise. Sometime guests would get up at 3am for the tours. There is a lot of traffic on the street (Arcopata) and the drivers like to use their horns all hours of the night although the traffic dropped between 12 and 5am. I got used to the traffic noise. ||||There are no lockers for valuables but the reception was always locked, keeping out unauthorised visitors but making it sometimes awkward for entering and leaving the hostel if no one was at the desk. There was a concern that other guests would rummage through my things but nothing was stolen. Some rooms have a key so it's possible you could increase your security by request.||||Below room 114 is a garage with steel doors. When they are opened at 7am, they shake the building and are really loud.||||Toilet paper is not provided although it is for sale in reception.||||Conclusion:||Basic hostel for a cheap price. Good facilities locally and a 15 minute walk to the more touristic centre. There are other cheap hostels around for the same price that include a free breakfast. Check out Grasshopper Hostel on Calle Hospital near San Pedro, Let's Go Bananas and Pisac Hostel on Recoleta...
Read moreI booked a room in the Hostal Punuy Wasi for 9 days, and as i arrived, the woman from the reception told me that their bedrooms were all occupied so that she would have to give me one of the little rooms without heater in their Yard, were people get a room for only a few hours. I was outraged and the woman said she would give me one of the principal rooms in the building after 4 days. I just wondered because a few weeks before, i talked to the owner , who assured me a room in the builing, but as i asked the woman if i could talk to him, she said he was away. so i just stayed 4 days in the Little room . Unfortunately, the breakfast was deficient. There were only three tables in a Little room for the guests, and one of them were always occupied by the staff. Everyone got two breads and a bit of liquid strawberry jam and butter. Apart from that, there were only coffee, Teas and milk, so i always went hungruy out of the hostal and had to get breakfast in the Center of Cusco. One other Thing i did not comprehend, was that the staff locked the Portal at 9pm, so that i always had to ring the bell when i came later (most of the tourists go to Partys, Cusco is famous for it too ) and no one came to open. I really had to ring 4 times until the stuff came and opened the Portal after half an hour. I must say, they've mostly been unfriendly to the guests. I do apsolutely NOT reccomend this hostal! That's...
