It’s Like That: My Budget-Friendly Makati Stay
My nine-day stay at Gomez House by Hotel Durban was a memorable part of my October trip. The primary reason for my visit was to attend my dream concert of Mariah Carey at the Mall of Asia Arena, and choosing Makati was a deliberate decision. My fascination with skyscrapers and high-rise buildings since childhood made Makati the perfect backdrop for this adventure.
What I Loved: • Location: The hotel’s spot in Poblacion was a true gem. I loved how everything was within walking distance—delicious local eateries, cozy cafes, and even a handy laundromat. The area’s vibrant atmosphere made each day exciting and convenient. • Friendly Staff: The staff truly made my stay special. Their warmth and patience stood out, especially when I had moments of forgetfulness with my PIN code. Their genuine hospitality added a personal touch to the experience. • Stunning Views: Waking up to the breathtaking Makati skyline every morning was a dream. It made the stay feel even more special and aligned perfectly with my love for urban landscapes. • Wake-Up Service: The convenient wake-up feature, where the lobby could set an alarm on my phone, was incredibly helpful. It ensured I never missed an early morning event, making my schedule hassle-free.
A Few Things to Note: • Wi-Fi: While the room’s Wi-Fi could be a bit spotty, I found the lobby connection more reliable. I mostly used my mobile data, but it didn’t detract much from the experience. • No Elevator: Being on the third floor, carrying heavy luggage was a bit challenging, but it was manageable with a bit of effort. • Bathroom Details: The bathroom had both hot and cold showers and provided essential toiletries, though I brought my own. There was a minor issue with the bathroom door being a bit difficult to open, and I hope it gets fixed for future guests.
In Conclusion:
Overall, my stay at Gomez House was truly wonderful. It felt like a home away from home, and the combination of comfort, convenience, and those personal touches made my trip unforgettable. I’d definitely return, and I’m grateful for...
Read moreNot your typical hotel, but more of a bed and breakfast. |Hotel staff are very friendly and accomodating. I didn't have a hard time with my reservation and confirmation. Philip was very nice to assist during my check-in. Hotel staff are quick to respond specially when I had trouble removing my door key and when I asked someone to change my garbage. Daily room cleaning is offered, but I don't need to. |I like how the room is planned, small yet functional, you can still move around. Bathroom has rain shower heads and the toilet has a bidet. It's also quiet, I was able to sleep wonderfully for 3 nights. Bed is soft and I love the pillows so much, I can just snuggle all day. |They gave free continental breakfast with my stay, but I just hope they'll serve different fresh baked bread everyday. I stayed for 4 days, it's always same and for the continental breakfast, condiments such as jams and butter should already come with it not cost you 50 pesos for one small portion of butter (20grms).|Food costs way too much, price is like eating in a fine dining restaurant. I tried one night, just to see and I wasn't happy at all. 10" Thin crust pizza worth 450 pesos without delivery charge since it is located in the other hotel. The next day, I ate in the neighboring restaurant. You can walk going to burgos street and have a culinary adventure. |They have a wonderful roofdeck and the guests can relax there. I hope they'll turn it into a breakfast nook for the guests. I saw there's a kitchen, they can serve fresh baked breads, fresh juices, coffee, pancakes and waffles. Guests can have their breakfast there since it has a wonderful view in the morning. The bakery downstairs is also cramped up in the morning plus the bags and laptops of the guests, so it's hard to...
Read moreI stayed at Gomez House by Hotel Durban for one night while attending an event nearby. Here are some honest observations based on my experience:Pros:Situated in the heart of Poblacion, it's walking distance from Don Pedro Street and OG Poblacion, where you’ll find a great mix of curated bars, unique restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. The bedding, pillows, and linens were clean and cozy. The room had a window and the air conditioning worked well, which made the stay comfortable.Cons:I booked a triple room, but it felt more suitable for just one person in terms of space and layout.Standard check-in is at 2 PM, but I arrived past 3 PM and the room was still not ready, which was disappointing.Staff interactions felt robotic and lacked warmth—some genuine hospitality would really enhance the guest experience. The property has steep stairs and no elevator, which can be a challenge for senior guests or those with mobility issues.Though Wi-Fi is listed as a guaranteed amenity, the connection was unreliable and even cut out completely at one point.Overall Impression:If you're looking for an affordable, no-frills place to stay in a central location and plan to spend most of your time out and about, Gomez House can be a convenient base. Just manage your expectations regarding service...
