This is a superb modern hotel with large bathrooms and spacious rooms, meticulously cleaned every day. It has an extensive breakfast with v attentive, polite and friendly staff. Indeed, all staff are wonderful. This is a hotel which is 100% committed - in the smallest detail - to guests having a thoroughly enjoyable stay. This really is 'Service with a smile'
Superb location: In the heart of the city in a good neighbourhood with many interesting restaurants. Armenian food, anyone?! There's even a Lidl nearby. The San Sebastio Metro is a 5 minute walk away, which is served by the Red and Blue lines.
It couldn't be easier from the airport. A 20 min ride to San Sebastio Station at the end of the Red Line. Simple. However, the 4 different exits can be v confusing and are significantly far apart, so to avoid getting lost, pay attention (!):
(From the airport): If the doors of the train open on the right, exit onto the platform and turn left. If the doors of the train open on the left, exit onto on the platform and turn right. IE Walk in the same direction that the train had been travelling in.
(While you're at it, marvel at the stunning modern architecture of station with its huge, shiny ventilation pipes, clean lines, tiles and glass) In exiting the station, take the left exit and up the stairs. You will see a crossroads with traffic lights nearby in front of you, with the mature trees of Gulbenkian Park on the other side of the road. Turn right at the crossroads (without crossing). The hotel is located a few minutes away in the 2nd turning on the right (Avenida Miguel Bombarda) at the near end.
To get further into the city using the Metro, use Blue Line from the same station (San Sebastio):
You need either to use a different entrance, or, far easier IMO, use the same entrance, which, of course, takes you back onto the Red Line platform.
However, you proceed to the other end of the platform, go up the stairs and follow signs to the Blue line. SO, if you are returning from the city using the Blue line, to find the best exit for the hotel, you head for the red line, and walk the length of the platform and up the stairs at the other end. It is easy when you get the hang of it.
Remember; the exits are significantly apart. When we arrived from the airport we came out of the wrong exit, and Google Maps wasn't responsive, so we kept going in the wrong direction. Google Maps even took us to another exit using the correct road name! Painful! So, follow my directions meticulously and you'll be fine.
AND FINALLY: The nearby free-to-enter Gulbenkian Park gardens with their ponds, lakes, water features, sculptures, mature trees, sunny open grass areas, superb brutalist architecture of the museums (if you appreciate such... as I do!), and delightful cafe are an utter joy. Absolutely must NOT be missed, and is just 3 minutes walk away from the hotel. There is even a wonderful ice cream parlour on the other side of the road from the park entrance.
Lisbon is a delightful city with friendly, kind and helpful people. And if you have booked this hotel, you have struck GOLD!
ENJOY!
PS - Sorry, but I only have photos...
Read moreIn short: the hotel is ok, the location is fantastic.
A few more words: The best part is the location. The metro station for the red and blue line is 2 minutes away, giving you dirct access from the airport and to the city centre. There are also a lot of restaurants, a lidl, a big shopping mall and a great park right around the corner.
To the hotel specifically: The staff was overall very nice. When we arrived at 16:30 o'clock the room was not yet finished and we had to wait for another 30 minutes before we could go in. The room itself was clean enough, but nearly all textiles were spots. The blinds have seen better days for sure, but that you can look past, but the bed linens were also not clean, with some spots all over. Nothing huge, but noticable. The towels were fine. The rooms are also definitely not soundproof, if you are a light sleeper definitely bring ear plugs, because between the landing plain noises (plains flight very close over the city to land at the airport) and the guest in the neighbouring rooms, but definitely in the hallway, you will need them.
The breakfast: doable. It is not a huge spread, very repetitive and boring, but it is fine. My biggest con here is that everything is cold. The eggs and bacon are in a warm pot, but they are cold. The pancakes are straight from the package in the fridge, and in general, the only thing warm was the coffee. Also if you are getting cold easily bring a jacket etc because the restaurant where the breakfast takes place is freezing.
In conclusion: I stayed at worse hotels but I stayed also at much better hotels. It was a tad bit disappointing when you keep in mind that it is a four star hotel. But if your priority is the location and accessibility to the city, it is a...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel and part of a package tour. The hotel was close to most amenities and the airport. We did encounter some pros and cons||The hotel is very sleek and modern, however, the lobby floors and very slippery. As a result my husband took a very nasty fall face first and required several stitches. I must admit the hotel staff were amazing at attending to his immediate needs and quick to provide first aid. Any of the staff we did have to encounter were all very friendly and courteous. ||The buffet food was adequate although I have eaten better. The breakfast buffet was pleasant, however the dinner/supper buffet was over priced for so-so food. ||The rooms are adequate. It seems like they opted for the minimalistic decor rather than practical and comfort. The bathroom floors and shower surface are deadly slippery. There was no rubber shower mat so we ended up using a towel on the shower floor to prevent another fall. There are no hooks in the bathroom to hang your nightgown or bathrobe. They do not supply tissue (eg. Kleenex) which I haven't experienced in any hotel I've been in for years. There are no shelves to place your shaving kit or makeup bags. There was an European outlet in the bathrooms which was nice for my hair curler. There is no coffee maker in the room, and you must pay for anything you remove from the fridge. ||The bed were unbelievably uncomfortable. Two child size twin beds pushed together with rubber/plastic mattress pads. ||I wouldn't rule this hotel out entirely, but if I ever came back to Lisbon, I probably would...
