We are most definitely not the easiest of guests and because we travel a lot and see many hotels from the inside, we by now have high standards. One hotel in which we are now again guests, after we have extended our stay already before, is the Mercure Hotel in Fatima. Fatima in itself really has a lot of hotels that we have not been to yet and therefore we cannot compare, but we are glad to have arrived here. The hotel is very stylish, the beds are fantastic (you sleep very very well, which is very important), and what is also important for us: everyone is very professional and very friendly. A special thank you to the Indian lady who is always available for a nice chat. She is really a gold treasure. But of course all the other employees are really great and always attentive. The manager can be very proud of that! The gym could be a little better ventilated and there could be a few towel hooks, but that's really only annoying if you force yourself to say something negative. It doesn't seriously bother. Also worth pointing out is that we had a minor incident in the underground parking garage, which was definitely not the hotel's fault, but very professionally resolved by the general manager. We don't really use room cleaning very often, as we like to have our own order in the room and also don't insist on having fresh towels every day and a completely cleaned room every day (we always want to feel "at home" and who uses a fresh towel every day at home?! Well, we certainly don't :-)) When we had cleaned our room, the housekeeping made a really good job. They take really good care on everything. Many thanks to all who make it possible for us to have such a...
Read moreGood hotel on paper, very stylish and personnel wants to help. However, rooms are not functional. There is no separate area between the room, the toilets and the shower. No privacy if more than 1 person in the bedroom. Small details which make a difference and can ruin your stay: For a family of 4, there was only one towel hanger, which does not even hold a single towel. When you open the shower door, it falls in the water.
Breakfast: unlike many other comments, it is a MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT. You have to wait to be seated. We waited 5 minutes, in an empty breakfast room. You have no choice of what you will eat: you are brought 4 dishes, with bread, fruit, ham and omelette, even if you don’t ask. If you don’t eat, it goes straight to the bin. What a waste of food !!! You have to ask for everything, even jam (first ingredient is glucose sirop not fruit or sugar), or butter. The buffet area is actually a decor, there is nothing to pick up… even the coffee machine cannot be used by guests.
Breakfast is definitely not at the standards of a Mercure Hotel.
Ruined my breakfast 3 mornings in a row.
There are signs everywhere in the hotel about « saving the planet by not cleaning towels every day » but every single day, they throw tons of food at breakfast. Simply unacceptable.
There is a reason why buffet breakfast is the norm everywhere in the world, this hotel...
Read moreThe hotel is fantastic. It's located centrally almost 2 mins walk from the church of apparition. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated. It's clean, modern and well designed. The only odd thing was the way breakfast was served. They have a buffet layed out but ask you to sit at the table and the staff will bring the breakfast to the table. So you end up with more food that you need or you are too shy to ask for seconds if you like something. They serve a bread basket with meats and cheeses and fruits. They also serve scrambled eggs, bacon and mushrooms. The hot breakfast was always cold and we never liked it. Most people around us rarely finished everything ie huge food wastage. I'd recommend not to get breakfast and eat in some cafe. The staff was friendly, especially the cleaning staff. There is a minimalist gym in the basement -2 level, never busy so that's good. There is also a lovely gift and souvenir shop attached to the hotel with a cafe on the side and a decent restaurant. Overall we loved it mostly because of...
