Tonsai Grocery — Restaurant in Ourém

I love Bio food - and have needed to eat it for many years because I am quite sensitive to pesticides. When I found Tonsai in the small Portuguese town of Fatima, I could hardly believe it! Everything at Tonsai is certified organic and the selection of products is absolutely amazing. In addition, the fresh fruit and vegetable selection is extensive, and included persimmons, custard apples and cactus pear (using the Australian words here), and there is a frozen section with fruits, vegetables, ice cream and more. If you need cleaning supplies, Tonsai has them, too. I did not get to sample the homemade meals and sweets, but they looked wonderful, and you can enjoy a meal right outside the shop on the peaceful tree-lined street. Tonsai is a remarkably well-stocked bio/organic store. Going in I wasn’t sure how large their selection would be, but I was pleasantly surprised to see such a large collection of vegetables, fruits, flours, and international products such as umeboshi or tamari. Bulk buying of nuts, oats, dried beans, etc. is all possible here. They also have an extensive collection of soaps, shampoos, conditioners, cleaners and more. I tried several of their sparkling ciders which are excellent and affordable! We stocked up while at the store to fill our cupboards with quality bio groceries. The one star is for chef/dishwasher/waiter who touched the food with her hands and no gloves. My salad was put on the plate without gloves, the greens were sprinkled on my food without gloves, then she touched the olive oil gave me food and started to wash the dirty dishes🤬🤬🤬How one who is handling food is not wearing gloves? I had lunch there for 12 euros asmall bowl of soup, a cup of tea and plate (red cabbage, rice, cooked cabbage). For the same amount of money I could get at my favorite vegetarian restaurant in Setubal a dish full full of delicious vegetation options...
