We stayed at Oca Ribeira do Porto for two nights during our European holiday and overall had a good experience. The hotel is beautifully designed, and the location is truly unbeatable, nestled in the heart of Ribeira, right near the water with stunning views of Vila Nova de Gaia across the river. You’re within walking distance of so many great restaurants, shops, and scenic spots. That said, be prepared: Porto is full of steep hills, so bring your walking shoes!
Our room was spacious, much larger than expected and the bed was very comfortable, which was especially appreciated since I unfortunately fell quite ill with food poisoning during our stay. Thankfully, the hotel’s central location made it easy to access pharmacies and rest when needed.
A few things could be improved: •The pull-out couch had crumbs on it, which made it seem like it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. Whether or not it’s being used as a bed, we do think all parts of the room should be cleaned between guests. •We also found the room service process a bit unclear. Simply putting a sign on the door didn’t seem to trigger a towel refresh or cleaning service. We had to make a separate request.
That said, the washroom was lovely and modern, and the overall cleanliness of the room (aside from the couch) was great. A helpful tip: the hotel is made up of several connected buildings, so your room may not be located in the same structure as the main reception area, just something to be aware of when checking in and out.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. All in all, this is a great spot to stay for exploring Porto. Central, charming, and well-located for getting...
Read morePlease read this review because I want to explain the two stars for service. The hotel is great. The rooms are spectacular. They are basically studio apartments with spectacular views of the river. The location is unmatched. You literally walk out the door and are in the center of all the cities activities. There's also a bus stop just one block away that makes it accessible to pretty much anywhere in the city .
My issue is this concept of a virtual hotel. It was not explicitly disclosed on hotels dot com and I did not appreciate that. We walked to the hotel with all of our stuff only to discover that there is no lobby, and the only staff on site are the housekeepers. I actually would be okay with all of this if it was disclosed. We rang a doorbell and someone let us in. Then we proceeded to communicate with someone via a video call to get checked in.
After getting checked in we also discovered that they only clean the rooms every 3 days. This was not explicitly disclosed either. They do say in their posting that there is an additional fee for additional cleaning. But one has to assume that they are going to clean it everyday, and if you want more you pay for it.
I would still have booked this hotel, even if I knew all of the above. But it is leaving a sour taste that none of it was disclosed ahead of time. Overall, a wonderful experience and spectacular rooms with an...
Read moreI was hesitant to book this place initially as it had no reviews. But their other hotels in Porto were rated well so I decided to take a chance. And boy were we happy with our decision. The location was fantastic. Absolutely incredible. Just steps from the river. The family room was really spacious and clean. The only issue would have been if we had checked in after 6PM as the check-in at this location is till 6PM and after that you have to go to a sister hotel (about 0.5 miles away). They do specify it in their email, so there are no surprises. All in all, a fantastic place and I have no idea why this place doesn’t have...
