DoubleTree by Hilton Cluj - City Plaza — Hotel in Cluj Metropolitan Area

We were expecting more from a five star hotel. Deeply disappointed with our last experience. My husband and I stayed previously at this hotel few weeks ago and had some problems with the room temperature but we were hopping for improvement. This time we were complimentary upgraded to a king deluxe suite with jacuzzi. However, although we appreciated the gesture, the suite was not all that great. The old air conditioner in the bedroom made a loud noise and continued to make noise even when turned off. Some of the tiles in the bathroom were moving while stepping on them and the glass bathroom door did not offer the adequate privacy. We asked for a late checkout when we booked the accommodation and we were informed that was granted. It was further confirmed at the time we checked in. However, the next day the cleaning person knocked on our door for minutes and when I opened the door she told me that we were supposed to leave the room. The do not disturbe sign was on the door but didn’t matter to het. I told her we were granted a late checkout and she told me that nobody told her. I called the front desk and a very rude man told me to get out of the room as there is nothing in their system that a late checkout was granted. However he changed his tune when I told him the name of the person who checked us in and he said ok to a late checkout. A wonderful 6 nights spent doing a combination of business and leisure. Impeccable staff service including organising a hair dressing appointment at very short notice. Swimming pool and spa are excellent after long flights or long days working. A delight is the quality of food in the Marco Polo Restaurant. While Cluj has many restaurants within walking distance, we were so impressed by the flavours, textures and variety that we chose to eat in. A great convenience is that the restuarant is open for lunch and then across the afternoon into the evening so no hassle to eat whenever you need to. Breakfasts have a wide variety and there is something different each day which is a nice touch when staying for 6 days. |Very comfortable bed with both softer and firmer pillows and lovely fluffy bath sheets. Front desk staff were helpful whether day or night shift and speaking English was no problem - there was always at least one person who was more than proficient. |Location is excellent - 5 - 8 mins walk into the old city centre which gives an immediate sense of being in Cluj. A park with a lake nearby too. Many restaurants serving both traditional Romanian dishes and a wide variety to suit different palates and diets. We embarked on an ice cream tasting and found it not possible to try out all the many outlets. |History abounds and many photo opportunities. |We will be back and will be very glad to stay at...
