If you want to stay in the heart of Moscow, within the pedestrian area of Red Square, I guess you need not look any further. Hotel Nikosky is the place to be. The Nikolskaya Street was THE most happening street in Moscow during the FIFA World Cup and we were right in the middle of all the action. The Red Square, Kremlin, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Kazan Cathedral are all a stone throw distance away. There are some great eating places suiting all pockets in the vicinity. The hotel itself is nothing great though. If you are used to star category comforts, this is not the place to be. The hotel is on the top floor of a four storied building without an elevator. It is a long corridor with rooms on one side. None of them is airconditioned although it was particularly hot and humid during our stay in the last week of June and the solitary low-speed pedestal fan just wasn't enough. We had to keep the windows open at night thereby letting in loud roars from the football fans on the road well past midnight. The internet at the far end of the corridor where our room #418 was located was scratchy at the best. We complained about the very first day with a promise to sort things out, hadn't happened in our four nights stay. Nothing much to say beyond this, cleanliness for a budget hotel of this sort was up to our expectation. The breakfast tie up for room delivery they have with a cafe downstairs is really good and very reasonable. All in all, a good place in an excellent location with three metro stations in the...

Read moreI'm sure you would have realised by now that this place is great on location. That is if you wanna stay on this "main" street. Value for money? Depends on when u booked it. We went during world cup time. It was WAY too crowded, noisy and WAY WAY overpriced. Obviously because it's world cup time, I know. Regardless, cars will Not be able to take u right to the hotel, it'll drop u off on a street nearby, and you'll have to to walk the rest, climb up 4 floors of stairs. Please do know: they have no AC. So if you're big on sleeping with the cool breeze flowing thru ur skin, don't book here. Even if it's winter time, yes u can open the windows, but realise that most rooms face the bin areas and the main Street which will be smelly and noisy even past midnight. Reception is 24 hours, they're really friendly and helpful (to their abilities with the fans). There are many other places to stay. Unfortunately I will not recommend...
