We recently stayed at this hotel, expecting a luxury experience given it’s listed as a member of Leading Hotels of the World and the steep price tag of €1,000 per night. We rented two rooms – one for ourselves and one for our granddaughter – expecting a high level of comfort and quality. Unfortunately, the experience was far from five-star. To our shock, we found a bed bug right in the bed, under the bed sheet – we felt it ourselves. When we reported this issue to management, their response was highly disappointing: they offered only a 50% discount on one night’s stay. It felt as though they were indifferent to both guest satisfaction and basic cleanliness standards. Additionally, the hotel claims the tap water is drinkable, yet it came out muddy – a troubling sign for a supposedly luxury hotel. We were also surprised to find no free bottled water provided in the room, despite the high price. In conclusion, this hotel does not deserve its five-star rating or its place in the Leading Hotels of the World. I would strongly recommend that travelers looking for a true luxury experience consider other options.

I recently visited Square Nine Hotel in Belgrade for a business meeting, and it exceeded expectations. Located on Studentski Trg, the hotel offers a quiet and elegant atmosphere, perfect for professional or casual meetups. The staff was exceptional—especially the kind and professional waitress and coat-check attendant, who made the experience seamless and welcoming. The space itself was cozy, refined, and pleasantly quiet, providing the perfect setting for a focused conversation over tea. For anyone seeking a sophisticated and tranquil spot in the heart of Belgrade, Square Nine Hotel is an excellent choice.

Probably the most majestic hotel in Belgrade with two Michelin recommended restaurants. We went with friends for dinner at The Square restaurant just next to the hotel lobby. The food and service were impeccable and exceeded all expectations. Waiters were attentive, friendly, and very professional. The wine list is exceptional and has local, regional and international wines. The location of hotel and restaurant is ideal, just steps from the Knez Mihailo street. A truly luxurious and unforgettable experience! P.S. start your dinning experience with a Negroni at the lobby bar.

My husband and I were picking venues in a Belgrade for a Serbian - American wedding this year. After a lot of deliberation, we decided on SQ9, and after our wedding day, I can say that it was the best possible choice (I only regret spending our time looking at other venues in Belgrade, since it was a waste - we should’ve just picked SQ9 immediately as soon as we visited).

While everything was phenomenal, I would like to highlight a few things:

SQ9 event planning team member, Kristina Lucic- she was wonderful from the moment we met her. Super responsive, understanding, incredibly respectful, kind, well organized, timely, hard working. She found a solution for all of our needs, made wedding planning from the US a breeze, and was there during the evening to make sure that everything goes smoothly (and everything went smoothly indeed). Hvala puno, Kristina!! The venue (The Square restaurant including the Piazzeta outside) - stunning, elegant, classy. We were pretty worried about privacy given that it’s right next to the lobby, but the team put up partitions that made the space feel private. Plus once the wedding started, regular hotel guests weren’t just hanging out in the lobby, we felt like we had our own space. I think it also might’ve slightly helped that our wedding was on Sunday (vs. Friday or Saturday) - it seemed like there were somewhat fewer guests on a Sunday night vs. previous nights, so if you have a concern like that, I’d just recommend planning your event for Sunday to be extra sure (although I genuinely think that it’d be great and feel private either way). Food - amazing, amazing, amazing. Super accommodating for food restrictions too. We also got a wedding cake from SQ9 - it was incredible, they have their own pastry chef on site, who made exactly what we wanted. Drinks - honestly, cocktails at SQ9 are better than at most places in the US. Our guests (including some cocktail connoisseurs) were super impressed. Service - quick, responsive, helpful, polite and kind staff (this refers to both staff that helped during the wedding and the hotel staff in general) Coordination on the wedding day - We didn’t hire an external wedding planner and we didn’t need to. Kristina helped us with the band coordination and made sure everything is timed appropriately on our wedding day. Decorations - we didn’t have time nor energy to deal with picking flowers so our decorations were minimal (and picked out a week before the wedding). However, the space itself was so beautiful, it didn’t require anything. Other venues we looked at would actually require a good amount of work and various decorations to truly make the space shine, but that’s not the case with SQ9. We just had a centerpiece for our bridal table and a few pieces for the main tables, and it was more than enough. Space itself is breathtaking so you don’t need much to make it look beautiful (which minimizes planning, coordination, and any additional investment)

Overall, the level of professionalism, service, responsiveness and quality is unparalleled when compared to any other wedding venue that we visited in Belgrade. (and we have seen all the major / most popular ones). Both of us (and our guests) travel a lot and we can only say that this truly is a world-class hotel in every possible way.

We hope that we’ll have an opportunity to organize another event at SQ9 - we loved it and can’t wait to go back as soon as we...

This hotel is definitely my fav in Belgrade! Countless awesome stays, meals… SO, why wouldn’t you return to the proven best of the best??

My most recent experience however left a sour taste in my mouth. A birthday breakfast with my dad turned into a ridicilous conversations about something as simple as ordering a coffee. All I asked for is a traditional local coffee, which I’ve had countless times for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Stefan, our waiter for the occasion, refused to serve me the coffee I asked for and instead brought a the speediest version of what he suggested was the coffee. I proceeded to tell him, I’ve had this coffee on many occasions previously and there was never a suggestions it is not served in the morning. His answer was priceless - the other waiters must’ve made a mistake in serving me (what I actually asked for).

On my third attempt, asking a different person for it, eventually it was ‘made possible’. Even then, it was felt necessary to be explained to me that "it is all the same coffee just served differently”. Even if so, is that really necessary?? And at a venue such as this????

I am still at a loss as why Stefan thought it would be more important to correct me with my order wish instead of just bringing it to the table.

It is a small issue, I concede, but also such a simple ask for something that exists on the menu - not something I came up and insisted on being served! God forbid, I should come up with a drink to suit my taste to be catered solely to the guests’ wishes!!!!!

Extreme disappointment (and an absolute shock that this is possible at a place of such high calibre) to say the least!

Carry on and please yourselves instead of your guests, first thing in...

My stay at Square Nine Belgrade was nothing short of phenomenal—it’s easily one of the top five hotels I’ve ever experienced worldwide. Everything about this place is impeccable: the central location, the exquisite interior design, and, above all, the outstanding staff. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the retro-chic decor of the lobby—a beautiful blend of vintage charm and modern luxury that instantly sets the tone for something special.

I stayed in the Executive Suite, and it was a dream. The separate bedroom and living room, adorned with original vintage furnishings, felt both sophisticated and inviting. The expansive bathroom was a sanctuary of its own, and the 20 sqm terrace added a lovely touch to the space. The room was spotless, spacious, and designed with an attention to detail that’s truly rare.

The staff was first-rate—polite, helpful, and genuinely invested in making my stay flawless. Petar, the concierge, is the undisputed superstar of Square Nine. His assistance was invaluable, offering spot-on recommendations with a warm smile. He’s the kind of person who elevates a hotel stay into a memorable experience.

The SPA was another highlight—pure bliss from start to finish. It’s an amazing, peaceful retreat with top-notch facilities that left me feeling utterly refreshed. Breakfast was satisfying and beautifully presented, though I didn’t make it to the rooftop restaurant. Friends who did raved about its incredible food and views, so it’s on my list for next time!

Check-in and check-out were a breeze, and every moment at Square Nine felt seamless. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a masterclass in hospitality, design, and comfort. I can’t recommend it enough to anyone...
