When it comes to a hotel there are a few basics we are looking for notably 1) sleep comfort, 2) hospitality and 3) location/niceness. ||On sleep comfort, the rooms are way too hot and the pillows are about as useless as they come. Each room is temperature controlled but extremely limited, meaning that despite setting cooling to the absolute max the room never got cooler than 23C based on the temp from my watch and spent much of the time closer to 25/26. (That's 74F, 77F and 79F respectively for American readers). We also noticed a few too many stains which didn't help put us at ease either. ||Most of these problems would have been avoidable/fixable or at least improved on if hospitality was decent. But I have to say customer service and the front desk is the true low light of this hotel. Between the issues during our actual stay and booking conflicts before, I cannot emphasize enough how strongly I've disliked dealing with the Occidental. If anything goes wrong during your stay, rest assured you will not be helped and likely charged extra for the effort. ||The location here is decent, though as we noticed while walking around town there are many other options more conveniently located in the thick of it or you could likely save a good chunk by staying slightly further out; Ljubljana is beautifully walkable. Occidental is in the sweet spot of close enough to charge more without offering substantially better value than hotels 500-1,500m further away. On a similar note parking was insane at €32/day. If you are coming to LJU mostly to walk around I would highly consider either a different parking lot or transferring to the city and renting after your time in LJU. Better still would be to stay at a different hotel. We later had valet parking for just €15 a day and they charged our car for free. ||In short, if you like sleeping in the heat, with uncomfortable pillows and a few stains, paired with a nice figurative slap from the concierge, all while paying more for parking than your rental car even costs the Occidental is the place for you. For everyone else, try literally anywhere else. Ljubljana is a stunning city and should not be missed/tainted because of one...

We stayed at Occidental Ljubljana in June 2025 for 3 nights. It was a last minute booking (we decided to leave Zagreb early and go to Ljubljana instead) – we literally booked it a couple hours before arriving.||It’s a true hotel – which is different than many places you stay in Europe, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The receptionists (who I believe are there 24/7?) were very helpful and gave us some good suggestions on where to eat and go. The rooms were nice, modern, and clean…the A/C worked well and the beds were comfortable.||The location was great – very close to the center of old town, but we never noticed any noise. It was also conveniently located in the same building as a Lidl, which made some grocery shopping very easy. The hotel also has its own private parking in the same building (it’s a public garage, but in a separate area you need a code for – just ask the front desk). It did cost extra, but was extremely convenient.||We noticed a lot of reviews before arriving about the weird bathroom layout – everything is modular. The toilet is in one cubicle (separated by a door); the shower is in another cubicle (again with its own door)…both are off of the sink area, which is open to the rest of the room. Honestly, this did not pose any issues for my wife and I, but it is something to note, as I could see it being a problem if you are traveling with non-family members (you basically have to walk into an open area to get a towel).||We did not use any of the other amenities at the hotel so cannot judge those.|Overall we would definitely stay at Occidental...

I had an issue with my "deluxe room with terrace" as I felt it didn't offer me the view I was sold - rather than the castle in the advertised pictures I looked out onto a rather ugly tower block. I knew there was availability the next day and that my room was the only one without a view so asked if I could move and was told "maybe" (I knew there was availability checking online myself). The next day I was told there was a room available and to move in the afternoon, but when I came back in the afternoon it had been given to someone else. I know it's a first world problem but I was really annoyed that they'd done this as it just seemed spiteful, so after I asked to complain they did end up finding a room in the next category above for me, but this was all done with an attitude - I asked to move, there was a room free, so why was I not just simply moved?! Apart from that issue the hotel was fine - it's brand new and as others have said the design is a bit quirky with bathrooms not necessarily being very private but I was on my own so that didn't bother me. The WiFi was fast, air conditioning worked great in the middle of summer, and noise proofing was excellent. The small fridge was great for storing drinks. A small bug bear though was that a "king" bed is actually 2 singles pushed together and the gap between them is noticeable. The location was great - very close to the old town and all it's sights, with a bus stop right outside and a handy Lidl supermarket directly underneath.

I bought this hotel expectinI had higher expectations for this hotel, especially considering its four-star rating. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues during my stay that detracted from the overall experience. On the first night, I noticed a stain on the bedsheets, and the following day my partner discovered a small bloodstain on the opposite side. This was quite disappointing, and even after we addressed the concerns, the initial response was only to change the duvet cover. It wasn’t until we specifically requested a complete bed change that action was taken. Additionally, I found the morning of our departure to be quite frustrating. At 8:45, there was a loud knock on our door from room service, which seemed to indicate a rush to clean the room and prepare it for the next guests. Given that we had paid for the room until 11:00 or 12:00, I expected to have it available for that duration without interruptions. It would be helpful to have clearer communication regarding check-out policies. While I appreciate the staff's efforts, in my experience, the responsiveness to these issues felt inadequate. I trust this feedback may assist future guests in making their decisions, as there are certainly other hotel options available. Thank you for taking the time to consider this perspective.

I recently stayed at the Occidental Ljubljana Hotel, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the modern and stylish decor, as well as the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, always going out of their way to ensure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. The room itself was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, offering all the amenities one could need, including a comfortable bed and a well-stocked minibar. The bathroom was pristine, with high-quality toiletries and plenty of towels. One of the highlights of my stay was the hotel’s breakfast. It offered a wide variety of fresh options, from local specialties to international favorites. It was the perfect way to start the day before heading out to explore Ljubljana. The hotel’s location is another huge plus—just a short distance from the city center, making it easy to explore all the main attractions. There are also great restaurants and cafes nearby, so you’ll never be short of options for dining. Overall, I highly recommend the Occidental Ljubljana Hotel for anyone visiting the city. It offers excellent service, a fantastic location, and a comfortable, relaxing environment. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit!
