When it comes to a hotel there are a few basics we are looking for notably 1) sleep comfort, 2) hospitality and 3) location/niceness. ||On sleep comfort, the rooms are way too hot and the pillows are about as useless as they come. Each room is temperature controlled but extremely limited, meaning that despite setting cooling to the absolute max the room never got cooler than 23C based on the temp from my watch and spent much of the time closer to 25/26. (That's 74F, 77F and 79F respectively for American readers). We also noticed a few too many stains which didn't help put us at ease either. ||Most of these problems would have been avoidable/fixable or at least improved on if hospitality was decent. But I have to say customer service and the front desk is the true low light of this hotel. Between the issues during our actual stay and booking conflicts before, I cannot emphasize enough how strongly I've disliked dealing with the Occidental. If anything goes wrong during your stay, rest assured you will not be helped and likely charged extra for the effort. ||The location here is decent, though as we noticed while walking around town there are many other options more conveniently located in the thick of it or you could likely save a good chunk by staying slightly further out; Ljubljana is beautifully walkable. Occidental is in the sweet spot of close enough to charge more without offering substantially better value than hotels 500-1,500m further away. On a similar note parking was insane at €32/day. If you are coming to LJU mostly to walk around I would highly consider either a different parking lot or transferring to the city and renting after your time in LJU. Better still would be to stay at a different hotel. We later had valet parking for just €15 a day and they charged our car for free. ||In short, if you like sleeping in the heat, with uncomfortable pillows and a few stains, paired with a nice figurative slap from the concierge, all while paying more for parking than your rental car even costs the Occidental is the place for you. For everyone else, try literally anywhere else. Ljubljana is a stunning city and should not be missed/tainted because of one...

Read moreWe stayed at Occidental Ljubljana in June 2025 for 3 nights. It was a last minute booking (we decided to leave Zagreb early and go to Ljubljana instead) – we literally booked it a couple hours before arriving.||It’s a true hotel – which is different than many places you stay in Europe, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The receptionists (who I believe are there 24/7?) were very helpful and gave us some good suggestions on where to eat and go. The rooms were nice, modern, and clean…the A/C worked well and the beds were comfortable.||The location was great – very close to the center of old town, but we never noticed any noise. It was also conveniently located in the same building as a Lidl, which made some grocery shopping very easy. The hotel also has its own private parking in the same building (it’s a public garage, but in a separate area you need a code for – just ask the front desk). It did cost extra, but was extremely convenient.||We noticed a lot of reviews before arriving about the weird bathroom layout – everything is modular. The toilet is in one cubicle (separated by a door); the shower is in another cubicle (again with its own door)…both are off of the sink area, which is open to the rest of the room. Honestly, this did not pose any issues for my wife and I, but it is something to note, as I could see it being a problem if you are traveling with non-family members (you basically have to walk into an open area to get a towel).||We did not use any of the other amenities at the hotel so cannot judge those.|Overall we would definitely stay at Occidental...
