I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Cubo, and I want to start by giving special thanks to the staff—they were incredibly polite, helpful, and always welcoming. A huge thank you to the reception team and the breakfast staff, who made my experience even more enjoyable. The breakfast was absolutely phenomenal! It’s cooked à la carte, and I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict with salmon and avocado—it’s to die for. They also have a small Swedish table with a selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, and pastries. The breakfast is amazing, though you should expect a bit of a wait since it’s freshly cooked, but it’s totally worth it. I stayed in a junior suite, and the room was spacious with both bath and shower options. They even left a thoughtful welcome gift—a small muffin with berries, which was a very nice touch. The location of the hotel is great, just a one-minute walk to the river and five minutes to the "Triple Bridge," which is the heart of the old town. One small inconvenience I encountered was with the "Do Not Disturb" feature. The room didn’t have a physical card, but rather a digital option on a screen, which displays near the door. I turned it on, but the cleaning staff still disturbed me, explaining that they don’t check the digital signs and rely on physical cards. They eventually gave me a card, but it was a bit misleading. Either the digital option should be disabled, or the cleaning staff should be trained to look for it as well. This was a minor issue, though, and didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. Another highlight is the QR code system they use instead of traditional keys. It’s so convenient—you just need your phone, which we all carry anyway. The cocktails at the hotel bar were also very nice and fairly priced. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, and big kudos to the amazing staff for making it such a pleasant experience!

Amazing hotel. Very considerate staff, recognized an error in my reservation dates, allowed me to fix it without penalty. Hotel is very fresh and renovated, rooms are large and modern. Located perfectly in the center of the city, Lidl market across the street, 3-5 minutes walking to any attraction in the city. Also several cafes and eateries, some open until late. Haven’t tried the room service but selection seems great and prices are more than reasonable. Exceptional service, high quality amenities in the room. Minibar offers a great section of complimentary snacks and drinks. Breakfast - absolutely amazing! Worth a stay on its own. Frankly, I never had a hotel breakfast as good as this one. It’s included in your room price, and there is a great menu selection - presented to you like it’s a Michelin star restaurant. They also offer to serve it to your room for a very small fee if you prefer. Overall this hotel is awesome. If you are looking to stay in Ljubljana - this is your place.

Overall: worth it Location (5/5): in the centre of Ljubljana. Service (5/5): let’s just put it this way – I don’t usually tip the hotel staff in Ljubljana, but did so happily in Cubo. Refreshingly friendly; especially in comparison to a couple of other well known & established hotels in the area. Room (4/5): room was actually great, but if you look carefully through the looking glass, you’ll notice some wear & tear. As a shower person, I hated the bathtub - the water was all over the floor. Food (5/5): OK, only had the breakfast, but it was beyond any other hotel breakfast in quite a while. The not so great: only 3 reserved parking spots in the front, which can make unloading luggage a tiny bit frustrating (valet will take the car for you though); no outside seating for the bar; currently (July 2021) there’s construction happening in the street, so – can be noisy. The internet connection wasn’t in favor of 2 people in separate conference calls throughout the day.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights in early January. While booking, they had been very prompt in respite emails. The location of the property is okay, but as a tourist I would have preferred something more into the old town area. The room was good and clean; we did have a problem though – we were a family of three, and the bathroom had a transparent glass pane which could not be covered. So, it is not very convenient for a family.

The minibar is free to use, they had some drinks, biscuits, chocolate bars there. The breakfast was a-la-carte, not buffet. They had a menu and you need to order from there. The breakfast was good, at least for a stay of three days, though the service took lot of time. We had also had our dinner using room service one night, the quality and quantity was good.

Now the issues that we had faced during our stay: on the morning after first night, the room was not cleaned and made up, though the bathroom was. When I reported this to the reception in the evening, I was given a reply that ‘we will tell the house cleaners to be more careful’, that’s it, no apologies, nothing was done to help on that day. We were three (and we were charged accordingly), but only one body wash bottle was provided when we checked in. So in the first morning, while they cleaned the bathroom and not the room, they did not replenish the body wash. After I made the request in the evening, I was provided with a bottle. Next morning they cleaned the bathroom and the room, but bathroom supplies were not replenished. We were running short on body lotion, so I kept the bottle open for the housekeeper to notice, they just closed the bottle and left it there, no replacement. Again I had to ask the reception in the evening to provide.

Further, when I booked, I was told that the parking would be €15 per night, but they charged me €17 per night on checking out. When I tried to point out that I was told €15, I was pretty sternly told that it was €17 (due to my hurry, I couldn’t show her the document stating the €15, but she didn’t even ask for any such document/mail). When I wrote to them about it on my return, they informed that the rate had increased post my booking, and they missed out on informing me about it; they also offered to refund the additional amount; but as above, it was the service and not the money which tainted the experience.

Overall, the service at the hotel was very underwhelming, and it left a very bad taste, given that we were paying quite a bit. Would I stay there again?...

We are casual people, but when we travel (which is often), we really treat ourselves and try to find the best accommodations in each city.

Hotel Cubo in Ljubljana was absolutely impressive beyond words. From the email exchanges ahead of the reservation to the breakfast, to the beautiful room, we couldn’t have wanted anything more from our experience.

My gluten free breakfast request was easily met (see picture) and our spur-of-the-moment choice to take a few day trips by private car were easily booked. We are appreciative of the staff’s recommendations, which made our little journeys particularly pleasant. They told us where to go, how to do it, what to skip, etc. and it helped us make choices.

The stay was made special by small details: the crushed flowers decorating the plate at breakfast, the turn down service, the gluten free lunch they packed me to take with me (not charged - no nickel and dime-ing at this hotel). Of course the driving company they selected also delivered a superior level of service, and for a fair price.

The bathroom was spotless. As a germaphobe who usually freaks out in hotel rooms, take it to mean something that I didn’t even break out my disinfectant wipes.

The (incredibly delicious) hotel restaurant off premises was easily accessed by taxi - a gratis service offered. Don’t skip this offer, as their restaurant is one of the best in the city.

We also used the little phone provided in the room with Guido app to get around; it complemented our own cell phones with some extra local information and restaurant recs. Also it made it easy to call our driver with a local phone.

Thank you so very much to the professional, trained staff of Cubo—particularly Sara, Luka, Tim, Nejc, and the breakfast crew—for an absolutely incredible and memorable stay in Slovenia. The “top” hotels in other countries could learn a little something about service...
