I give this place a 5 because their current average ratings which seems to draw on years-old reviews seems unwarranted. It's a place with charm and quirkiness -- maybe it does not deserve an unreserved 5 but surely a very well-deserved 4.5. Especially if you take into account that the price you pay (which includes the breakfast) is eminently reasonable.||The hotel these days seems mostly frequented by Westerners and younger ones at that. ||The reception area has plenty of seats and free wifi so you can plot your next move without having checked in (yet). Small snacks, tea, coffee, and water are available for free. Nice.||Our room, on the second floor, had a window only in the (very large and functional) bathroom and that window gave view to a huge construction site. The room itself was well appointed, clean, and the bed was comfy. The wifi worked flawlessly and so did the tv which unfortunately has no English-language news channels, or at least I did not find any after I flipped through the first 175 channels. ||The breakfast room is large and bright and quirky as well - all the way to record covers of the Beatles' Let It Be and Abbey and numerous other paintings and pictures which are accompanied by inspirational quotes. The food offerings are very Korean -- no omelettes -- but you find a mix of hot and cold dishes and a couple of waffle irons. The espresso machine did not work when we stayed there and the coffee was a bit on the weak side. (There is an espresso machine upstairs in the reception area.)||The location is excellent - in a quiet street with good restaurants and just a 5-minute walk from the Cheonggyecheon Stream, an examplary urban re-development project. (Check it out on wikipedia). The hotel is about a 10 minute stroll to the Myeong-dong area and in any case there are many food alleys all over the place. Access to the Metro (Line 1) is about ten minutes. ||Service can be temperamental and has upside potential for at least a couple of the reception staff. We had inquired about early check-in and were informed by the reception in writing that that had been "approved" but when we arrived were told that we could not check in before 3 - which was irritating because we had arranged for a eating and drinking tour through the alleys of downtown Seoul that started at 2. ||But overall, we can recommend this place and would not hesitate to stay...
Read moreWe had an amazing stay at this hotel. The service excellent, great location, great rooms and a very nice aesthetic. They gave us a free room upgrade to the Deluxe Double Room, which was spacious with a bathtub. The toilets have bidets and the shower was very nice. The room layout was perfect and there was lots of space to store luggage.
The hotel had a great aesthetic with old European paintings and Alice in Wonderland theming and they played calm jazz in the lobby overall making a great ambiance. There is also a sitting area outside in a small garden where you can hang out even in the winter. There are board games, novels and children’s toys you can borrow, which I thought was a nice touch.
The hotel included a delicious breakfast with many different Korean and American breakfast options. The hotel also provides free water, coffee and tea. The housekeeping came every day and was very attentive.
Location was excellent, within walking distance to subway stations, buses (including the airport bus), Myeongdong shopping areas and night market, Gyeongbokgung palace and many other places.
During our stay there was construction at the hotel so we could hear construction sounds during the daytime. However it was fairly quiet from our room and non invasive. The room also had a small issue with the door not opening fully however this was very minor.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back. It is a very unique hotel that helped make our stay in...
Read moreThe entire experience staying in Mong Hotel is no doubt very welcoming and comfortable! The hotel is located in a perfect location - very close to convenience stores, metro stations with a very iconic sign that you can find the hotel easily. Many restaurant choices for you to choose from over the day that make you ever want to eat more! For the room, apologies I didn't take pictures of the room but it is exactly as what we see from the website, clean, spacious and sound-proof. Staffs are very friendly and helpful, we feel like home especially when the lady at the cafe offers us coffee and home-made cookies at the lobby. One point to improve is that the breakfast (free and included) is quite basic, it would be great to increase the variety of food choices. What's more, we are impressed by the decorative environment at the lobby and appreciated the effort the hotel made to make our stay a more pleasant one. For example, we are impressed the hotel kindly prepared everyone a Christmas gift and put up some Christmas decorations at the lobby, we are also impressed by the lady who come to us directly, offer us their homemade bakery and introduced their speciality columbia coffee. All these are way more then what we have expected from a hotel, we will sure be staying here again next time we visit Seoul. Once again, we would like to thank the hotel for everything offered, much...
