Recently, I organized an event at this hotel, and it was a disaster from start to finish.
Unfortunately, it was a promotional event attended by tour operators and travel agents—professionals who actively promote tourism. When we started negotiations for booking event rooms and accommodations in late January, everything seemed perfectly arranged. However, upon arriving at the hotel two days before the event to settle in and begin preparations the following day as per our contract, we found ourselves completely unattended. The person responsible for events was on leave, and the only way to contact her was via email, as she claimed she "did not use a mobile phone."
To our further surprise, the hotel had recently changed its name without notifying us in advance. This caused confusion among our invited guests who had booked more than ten rooms, as they were unable to locate the hotel. While we managed to resolve this issue, the more serious problem was discovering that all the hallways, including the event foyer, were under renovation. In addition to the unbearable noise from construction work, the environment was in terrible condition.
On the day of the event, the so-called “event professional” did not show up to provide support, nor did the reservations manager. As a result, the rooms we had booked and fully paid for were in unacceptable condition. Every single guest complained about issues, including malfunctioning faucets, broken air conditioning, and an overwhelming smell of mold. Personally, I was given an "upgrade" that I would have been better off refusing, as the assigned room was one of the worst, despite the high price paid.
I filed multiple complaints via email and in person with the events and reservations team, but no corrective action was taken. To my shock, we were charged over a thousand euros for using the foyer—an essential passageway to access the booked event rooms. When I questioned this charge, I was met with an absurd explanation, as if we could access the rooms without passing through the foyer.
I want to emphasize that I have worked in the hospitality industry for over thirty years and have organized promotional events in 17 countries. Neither I nor my team have ever encountered such a level of inefficiency and disregard from a reservations and events team. I even offered to provide them with a free consultancy to improve their processes.
What surprises me the most is that Spain, and particularly Madrid, are considered models of excellent service and hospitality. Without a doubt, we will continue to organize events in Spain and Madrid, but in a hotel that at least provides a decent level of service—something we did not experience at this establishment. In addition to the excessively high prices for room rentals, including spaces we did not even use, the accommodations were in such poor condition that I would classify this hotel as no more than a two-star property.
The only saving grace was the food and beverage team. The restaurant staff provided exceptional service, demonstrating efficiency and professionalism, which helped minimize the negative impression left on the tour operators and travel agents attending the event.
I have documented my experience, and my contact details are available should they wish to discuss the...
Read moreWe have just returned from our stay here at this lovely hotel. We were so worried with the recent bad reviews and can honestly say we were getting very anxious. However, there was absolutely nothing to worry about! ||Rooms: We stayed in 333 which is a twin room (4 are friends that stayed for the Mad Cool Festival). It was really big, very modern and clean. It was a little noisy, however, it is a city, a very busy one for that so noise is expected. The bathroom was fab with a powerful shower which had 2 options of a lower shower head and one attached to the ceiling (cant think of the name of them). Fresh towels and replenished toilet roll daily.||Pool: The pool is lovely, cold, but lovely. It has a retractable roof which was closed halfway due to the heat. This was definitely needed when the temp was tipping 40° degrees daily. If you dont have towels you have hire towels for €3 per week. It closes at 7pm which is a great time, however, you can still use the rooftop terrace.||Rooftop Terrace: Oh My... it was amazing!! We used it daily to sunbathe and just look out of the city. ||Food and Drinks: Unfortunately I cant comment on the food as we didnt eat there, however, we did see other customers eating and the food looked nice. Cocktails are beautiful, around €14 but they are huge!! Beer €6 and soft drinks €6. ||Staff: Staff are lovely. We had no issues whatsoever with their service or no language barrier (we are from the uk). ||Location: Absolutely fantastic location. Across the road there is a Dia shop where you can purchase everything needed. We used it often to buy things to make baguettes, beers for room, juices, munch etc. Not expensive at all so was surprised being where it is. |Turn right out of the hotel and there are all your favourite fast foods, I.e. Mcds, Burger King, KGF. Left, there is a Popeyes, Tim Hortons. Opposite in a lovely little place called Oskars we used daily for a delicious Radler Limon (if you've never tried this its a must). |100s of shops, little boutiques, souvenir shops, bars, restaurants. There are numerous metros also surrounding this area so it makes it easy to get anywhere.|One day we turned right, walked around 10/15 mins and was right by the palace. ||All in all... we had a fantastic time. The hotel was beautiful and fab location. ||We will be...
Read moreHi,
We have stayed 6 days in Madrid and we initially booked the smart room. It is good to know that the hotel has 2 wings, the old wings if for indeed low cost price and the new one, with better rooms. We had a look in our room and gosh it was ridiculously small!!! So we head back to the reception and the Desk proposed us a standard room for 15 € a night. We took it and where not at all disappointed. This room was up to a 4 star hotel, spacious, modern with amenities. We were lucky to have the vertical garden view, which basically allow you to sleep with the window open all night. A real lux in Madrid. We were not annoyed but noise in corridor, although I think that wall are a bit thin. the Wifi was not working well in the room. I read a lot of people complaining about it and didn't think about reporting at the reception. but at the check out I did mention it and the lady said I should have reported it, they can fix it apparently now. Breakfast is really good, loads of variety. I cannot complain. However I am not a 'morning' eater so maybe some will complain but I found it quite satisfying for me. The rooftop is nice, view on part of Madrid, maybe not the most breathtaking but sufficient to take pictures! The swimming pool is a bit small but nice as well. During our stay we haven't found the swimming pool or rooftop too crowded, we always had place to seat or to lay. However it is true that it is a bit small. Good to know at dawn the swimming pool becomes a trendy bar with a brilliant conception to cover the water. You feel like Jesus walking on water! Location, really good close to Gran Via for shopping addict and close to most of the best sightseeing. I am then recommending this...
