Geneva’s Legendary Steakhouse: Goodwin

Geneva’s Legendary Steakhouse: Goodwin

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant GOODWIN the Steak House in Geneva not far from the central train station, close to the lake. We came here as a group of five and shared several dishes, and overall had a very good experience. The welcome was warm and we felt very well looked after throughout the evening. Different servers regularly checked in with us, and even though there was a small mistake with one of the side dishes, it was immediately corrected with the right one. Service was attentive and friendly. The meats were all cooked exactly as requested and were simply delicious. Among the starters, we particularly enjoyed the beef carpaccio with parmesan shavings and arugula, made with high-quality beef. The house salad “Goodwin” was also very good, with mushrooms and cured meat (I believe it was coppa). The bread was warm and tasty, even if not homemade. The beef tartare was excellent, though the seasoning could not be customized. From the main courses, I especially enjoyed the Chateaubriand and the T-bone, both of which had great flavor, were well-seasoned, and of very good quality. The side dishes and sauces were all delicious—we tried sweet potato fries, grilled vegetables, and five different steak sauces, all of which complemented the meat perfectly. For dessert, we shared the thin apple tart with raspberry ice cream, served with a light custard sauce. The apples were nicely caramelized, the crust fine and crisp, and the warm-cold balance worked very well. The atmosphere was made even more special by a talented young pianist playing during the evening. His performance created a very pleasant ambiance (perhaps a slightly larger repertoire would make it even better). The decoration of the restaurant is also worth mentioning, with original acrobat-shaped light fixtures, mirrors, and photos that make the place both stylish and cosy. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dinner with only minor points for improvement. I would definitely recommend this steakhouse for both the quality of the food and the atmosphere.

This was by far one of the best meals I've ever enjoyed. From the moment I walked in, the wait staff made me feel welcome and at home. The wine list is small but curated, and I don't think there's a bad choice on the list. The ambiance of the restaurant is exquisite, and I chose to sit facing the window watching the park and traffic go by (absolutely the right choice). The salad and bread were downright delicious and I can't think of a way they could've been improved. The steak was fantastic and I enjoyed both the pepper sauce and the Goodwin sauce (I can't pick one that was better than the other). Finally, the creme brulee trio is heavenly and is a must have when you visit. If I'm ever within 100 miles, I'll be making another visit. Thierry was my waiter for the night, I listened to each of his recommendations and he made sure I had the best experience possible.

A few weeks ago i had the pleasure of stumbling across Goodwin and decided with my group of friends to try it out. Ambiance was very modern and clean, decorations befitting a steakhouse. We ordered our wine and appetizers along with main course and felt good about what we were about to eat. Unfortunately, our wait staff personnel was totally inefficient with our order. He mistakenly brought me after everyone else received their meal 15 mins prior, beef stroganoff which was not what i ordered, i don't know how you get Caesar Salad with tiger prawns confused with stroganoff but it was done. I corrected the wait staff and another 20 mins later received my Caesar Salad but now i couldn't blame the error on the wait staff, the chef was now the disappointer. Who makes Caesar Salad with iceberg lettuce?? Especially from a very nice restaurant? Completely took the air out of my sails and on top of that, the seafood was not Tiger Prawns, just regular size shrimp. There is a difference, i know the menu didn't say GIANT Tiger Prawns but i thought the head would be attached.

I will end with what dishes were amazing, the grilled portobello mushroom snack and garlic toasts were delicious and the marbled rib-eye steak was melt in...
