Flawless hospitality with front-row Matterhorn views
This was my sixth visit to Zermatt—my favourite destination anywhere—and my second stay at Coeur des Alpes. It’s now firmly my first choice in town. Zermatt has many excellent hotels, but I think few (if any) can match the personal service and genuine hospitality delivered here by owners Leni & Thomas Müller-Julen.
Location The setting couldn’t be better: balcony views straight to the iconic Matterhorn. As Zermatt is car-free, you arrive by train from Täsch (about 15 minutes). The hosts meet you at Zermatt station, bring you to the front door, and drive you back to the station on departure.
Room (no 302) Spacious, beautifully decorated, and perfectly maintained, with a balcony facing the Matterhorn. Pulling back the curtains each morning and seeing that peak from bed is simply spectacular. The bed was exceptionally comfortable.
Facilities The shared spaces—especially the outdoor areas—are outstanding (see my photos). It’s easy to relax in this quiet area, car-free village surrounded by high mountains. The spa impresses with an indoor pool, and the outdoor hot tub frames the Matterhorn like a postcard. With roughly 25 rooms, the hotel never feels crowded.
Service Service is what keeps Coeur des Alpes at the top of TripAdvisor year after year. Leni & Thomas are present, attentive, and sincerely caring. Every breakfast, they make time to greet and chat with guests—it feels like visiting family. As a TripAdvisor Top Contributor with 300+ published reviews, I can say only a handful of hotels worldwide deliver this level of personal, heartfelt service. Also a special praise to the housekeeping team as well: always smiling, and spotless cleaning.
Atmosphere & Design Tasteful interiors create a warm, relaxed ambiance throughout. My photos tell the story: stylish without pretension, and cozy.
Breakfast An abundant buffet of high-quality hot and cold options, all attractively presented. We especially appreciated ordering coffee and hot dishes directly from the staff—combined with the owners’ morning conversation, it’s a wonderful start to the day.
Value for Money This is not a budget hotel, but it’s worth every franc. I will gladly stay here again on my next trip to Zermatt.
Cour des Alpes blends world-class scenery with genuinely personal hospitality. For travelers seeking an intimate hotel with unforgettable Matterhorn views and owners who treat guests like friends, this is the place!
From my Stay in 2017 One of the best hotel experiences ever at my favourite destination - Zermatt!
As a Top Contributor on Tripadvisor I have been reading hundreds of reviews of luxury hotels around the world. I have never seen a hotel with so many EXCELLENT reviews as this one. How is it possible to get that high score from nearly every customer? I therefore decide to try it for a very special family trip to my favourite destination – Zermatt - a place of exceptional natural beauty!
In summary, Hotel Coeur des Alpes is a very well run hotel offering a very high standard of quality and personal service. I chose this hotel based on all the extremely good Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed! We loved every moment of our stay and would highly recommend this place.
Leni & Thomas: We will be back again!

Read moreWe spent three nights at Hotel Coeur Des Alpes in Zermatt in early October last year.||We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful property. We were met at the railway station in an electric vehicle and driven to the hotel and shown how to enter through the tunnel in the rock and then a lift up to the reception area.||While we waited to check in we were given a lovely glass of prosecco, a wonderful welcome to such a beautiful place.||Our room was a Standard Suite with a Matterhorn view. Unfortunately, on the day of our arrival, the view was completely clouded over, but luckily the next morning was clear, and the view was nothing short of stupendous.||The suite was large and comfortable, but there were a couple of things that I didn’t like. Firstly, there were no bedside tables, and I never realised how much I need a bedside table until I didn’t have one. The bed was positioned to have a view to the Matterhorn, which is presumably why there was no room for these tables, but another problem was that the balcony we assumed would be private, actually was not.||While it would have been lovely to open the curtains and see the Matterhorn from our bed, the children of the people in the next room constantly ran up and down the balcony, which was very disappointing indeed. I thought that the resort was child free, but I obviously made a mistake with that.||The other thing I didn’t like was that the outdoor hot tub was also always full of children, so not somewhere where we would have wanted to relax.||Breakfast each morning was always excellent and the owners of the property were constantly available for information or just a chat. There was no restaurant at the hotel, but Zermatt has many restaurants, all within a ten to fifteen minutes walk.||Overall I would recommend this small boutique hotel for a very enjoyable...
