I would definitely stay here again
Pros: All the booking and information is provided via an online platform with a paperless entry/exit. I love this concept and more hotels should do it. Very efficient - they're tuning up some loose ends however in due course - all the check in and access will be fully online Their WIFI is amazing. Insanely high speeds - 400-500mbps. This is really good. Many switzerland hotels lack wifi or have very sub-optimal internet services. The manager was awesome - easily contactable anytime especially through whatsapp. Very friendly Well priced - Very cheap for what you get! Remember Zermatt is expensive! Brand spanking new - opened in in late 2022. Beds - comfortable They have personalised and secured lockers for ski stuff
Cons: The rooms are very small however Zermatt is probably the most expensive real estate in the world - so kinda expected. The hotel is located in the Industrial Side of Zermatt - so it's a bit of a hike to any local amenities - hence why it is probably cheaper to stay there. However, only 5-10 minute walk to the main centre. The closest bus stop is 3-4 minutes however 5-10 minutes if walking and carrying with Snow gear The ventilation in the bathroom and room was sub-optimal - it got muggy in the room hence had to open our balcony door to vent some fresh air in. Even though small this was a bit of an issue - there was no active ventilation in the bathroom - we could see a passive vent only. A lack of a small fridge, kettle and basic cutlery. I know space is limited however these items are really useful especially when you buy stuff from the local coop/migros/denner. Or when you want to make yourself a cup of tea :). Maybe having a common room with these facilities could be another option...
Read moreMy friend and I traveled to Zermatt from the US for a couple days as part of our trip to Switzerland. Peaky Riders seemed to be one of the cheaper hotels in Zermatt, and it looked pretty modern. Unfortunately, we don't recommend. As a caveat, this review is for the twin room, river view option, so we cannot speak for any of the other options.
We knew we would be booking a smaller than average room, but we didn't expect it to be as small as it was. The listing noted that the twin room was 140 sq ft, but it was definitely smaller than that. To make matters worse, our air conditioning did not work because the thermostat knob was broken. When we asked one of the employees about it, she mentioned that she was going to fix it, but later she just insisted we could open our door to cool the room off. We slept with the door open because it was so hot, particularly on the top bunk. The shower has this water-saving feature that prevents the shower from staying on for more than around 20 seconds. Not too big a deal, but it's definitely a little annoying when you're trying to wash your hair/body. Lastly, the bedding was very uncomfortable and did not appear to have been cleaned well recently. This was definitely the worst part of the stay. It made going to bed after a long day kinda miserable.
Some of the pros: the layout is updated/modern the employee at reception was very kind and helpful with recommendations the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the city (and there was a free bus stop about 5 minutes away) the self check-in and check-out process was fairly simple (though the reception employee did have to intervene because the system didn't work quite as planned)
All to say, maybe the nicer/bigger rooms don't have these issues, but we definitely...
Read moreOur stay at the Peaky Riders in Zermatt in April, 2025, was quite disappointing for me and my family. In normal circumstances, the hotel conditions could be considered ok and worth the price; the rooms are small, but well arranged, and the location is not bad. However, we were forced to stay two extra nights in this hotel due to the snow storm that affected Zermatt and the neighboring areas in the period 17-19/04/2025. Then we realized how the hotel staff was not prepared to deal with this type of situation. During the period we remained isolated in Zermatt, they charged quite high values for the extra nights (around 80 % of the full price, on average), despite the terrible conditions we were facing (with no electricity in the rooms and quite limited access to internet, food, and room service). Moreover, they did not let us know in advance the extra values that we would have to pay. When we manifested our disappointment with this action and our disagreement with the charged values, they even threatened to drive my family (which included 1 kid and 2 young girls) out of the hotel – in spite of the terrible weather conditions in the city. The guy who seems to be responsible for the hotel management (Gabriel) was quite rude with us and showed no sympathy towards our fragile situation. The girl (Camille) seemed at first supportive, but soon it became clear that she was as indifferent as the guy, only with a smiling face… I think this way of dealing with guests subjected to a situation of natural disaster is shameful and I hope no other tourists are subjected in the future to the same type...
