We chose a room with Matterhorn view and that's exactly what we got, it was beautiful! The first night the moon was shining on the Matterhorn and it just looked amazing. There was a smallish balcony with 2 chairs and a table where we sat and had drinks sometimes. The room is ample sized with great amenities: microwave, hob (didn't use either), fridge with ice box, kettle, DeLonghi coffee maker with 2 pods provided everyday, cutlery, plates, glasses, cups, bottle openers, hairdryer, all-in-one hair/body wash. Really appreciated that a sponge and washing-up liquid was provided, also tissues. There is an offer to fill the fridge with drinks, but Denner supermarket is just across the road, which was very handy! The room was well insulated, didn't hear anything from anyone when inside. There is a lift or stairs for use. Ski room in the basement is great, though the locker is quite tight for ski boots, poles, skis and helmets (x2). Boots hang on a boot-warmer which blows hot air twice a day. The room is easily reached from inside the hotel or (when in ski boots) from a lift outside. Near the ski room is a laundry room with one washing machine and one tumble dryer for free use. Tablets can be bought cheaply from reception. There is also a bike storage area which doubles as a room to play ping-pong. Bats & balls are provided from reception free. Spa area is nice - brine swimming pool which was lovely and warm with various areas with jets. Seperate sauna area (no swim wear allowed) with 2 saunas, a steam room and a foot spa. Linen cloths are provided to sit on or wrap around yourselves. Towels, robes and slippers are provided in the room for use in the spa. Breakfast is a buffet with lots of variety - a hot holder with beans, bacon, sausage & scrabbled eggs; there was a rice cooker and noodles; cereals, fruit, dried fruit, nuts, pancakes, cakes, yogurt, salad items, meat, little pots of different things such as ceviché, juices, coffee machines and a self-serve fresh orange juice press and not forgetting a big chilled cabinet full of different cheeses. Staff are lovely. We were leaving early, so a 'lunch pack' was provided in lieu of having breakfast. For skiing it is about 50m walk to the free e-bus (green line) which will drop you off close to the lifts for the Sunnegga or Matterhorn Paradise ski areas; or about 100m walk to the station for the mountain railway that will take you to the Gornergrat area. Directly opposite this station is the main train station for Zermatt, making for an easy and comfortable transfer from the airport. Overall it was the perfect hotel...
Read moreMy wife and I were totally pleased with the apartment, the location and the staff. It is located on Matterstrasse, the main street of Zermatt within easy walking distance of the train station. The adjoining hotel Arca has a free shuttle that we used to take us to the train station when we left. ||Our 3rd floor apartment was large, very nice, quiet, tastefully decorated and had a small balcony and settee. We never figured out how to adjust the HVAC system but it was cool enough outside that we would open the patio door when we wanted it cooler inside. The elevator outside our apartment led to the basement level where there is a protected underground passageway that leads to the ski lockers, pool, laundry facilities, the main office reception area and the Arca hotel restaurant. The free breakfast in the restaurant included a wide selection of hot food, pasties, cheeses, juices, etc. It was excellent. ||The hotel is located at the opposite end of town from the ski lift, the cog train to Gornergat, most restaurants, shopping and the Matterhorn, but it’s an easy, enjoyable walk from one end of Zermatt to the other. ||The cable car to the summit was closed due to high winds and very limited visibility our first day. The next day we took the cog train to the top of the mountain and had spectacular views of the nearby Matterhorn and the Alps. The weather was beautiful, with a crystal clear blue sky and no wind. It was so comfortable that we did not even need thermals or our insulated jackets. The shops at the top were all closed for remodeling. That afternoon we were going to take the cable car to see the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise exhibit, but the exhibit was closed for the season. It was not worth the cost of almost $300 just to ride to the top and return, so we cancelled. ||We loved Zermatt and would...
Read moreMy wife and I recently spent a week at the Aparthotel Naco in Zermatt, Switzerland (booked through inghams) We usually go half-board but opted for B&B on this occasion. Breakfast is taken at the adjoining Hotel Arca which can be easily reached either by popping outside or through a tunnel which joins the two buildings. The breakfast was excellent, couldn't wish for anything better. The apartment is approximately 200 metres from the station in Zermatt and is an easy five minute walk. There is a supermarket approximately 100metres away (one of three in the town). The apartment itself is very nice - we were on the third floor facing down the valley with a nice view of the houses on the nearby slopes, and some mountains. It was very pleasant to sit on the balcony enjoying a meal or a glass of wine. The room was fine, with plenty of storage space, a safe and TV (with BBC and ITV!). It was serviced on a daily basis. There is a small kitchen in the apartment with a microwave and two ceramic hobs. However, we didn't use them, preferring to have salads with excellent local meats, cheeses, quiches and breads, with a bottle of wine. There is also a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board etc in the basement but you have to book the appliances in good time because some people tend to hog them for longer than the allowed 1 hour. One of the great advantages of the apartment is that one can use the wonderful pool and spa facilities at the hotel Arca next door. Dressing gowns, towels etc are provided in the apartment and access through the tunnel is easy and discreet. The staff at reception in the Arca were very friendly and helpful. I would happily return to the...
