I recently had the pleasure of dining at Golden India restaurant in Zermatt, and I must say, it was an experience worth cherishing. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly made me feel at home. The staff here are not just friendly; they are incredibly attentive, ensuring that every aspect of your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.
Now, let's talk about the food – it was nothing short of extraordinary. I started with the onion pakoda, and let me tell you, each bite was a burst of flavor that left me craving for more. The crispiness of the pakodas paired perfectly with the tangy dipping sauce, setting the stage for what was to come next.
For my main course, I opted for the paneer makhani, it was a symphony of spices and aromas that danced on my palate. The paneer was tender, the sauce creamy, and the spices perfectly balanced – it was a culinary masterpiece that left me in awe of the chef's skill and expertise.
Beyond the culinary delights, the ambiance of the restaurant was equally delightful. The cozy yet elegant décor creates a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to unwind and savor every moment. Whether you're dining with friends, family, or that special someone, Golden India offers the perfect setting for a memorable meal.
Now, it's true that the prices here may be on the higher side, but trust me when I say, every penny is well worth it. When you factor in the impeccable service, the exquisite flavors, and the overall dining experience, you realize that you're not just paying for a meal; you're investing in an unforgettable journey for your taste buds.
In conclusion, if you're in Zermatt and craving authentic Indian cuisine served with a side of hospitality and charm, look no further than Golden India restaurant. Whether you're a connoisseur of Indian food or just looking to explore new culinary horizons, this hidden gem is sure to leave a lasting impression that will have you coming...
Read moreWhen we ordered, we learned that they ONLY serve all chicken dishes with chicken legs. I asked about the description of chicken tikka because it stated boneless. They are using legs & just cutting off the chicken. We’ve never had tikka quite so greasy and had to eat around so much fat. Of course, they are charging the same high prices as other Swiss restaurants that use white breast meat. In fact, this is the first Indian restaurant that does this. We’ve been in Germany/Switzerland for about 30 days, eating at several places. I was pleasantly surprised all serve chicken curry with breast meat. I ordered it here and with the legs, very greasy. Again, same high prices as others using white meat. The other thing we’ve never seen is serving chicken tikka on a plate vs the usual hot skillet. It actually had zero flavor. The outer sauce had some flavor but the chicken itself tasted more like boiled chicken. I kind of thought this wouldn’t be the best meal when the whole order came out within 6-7 mins. The whole experience was very disappointing. The total was $75chf for: chicken tikka, chicken curry, 1 naan. Will not be back. Not sure how so many reviews can honestly say this is the best Indian food they’ve eaten. Not true at all. The best in Europe is in Strasbourg, France. Tikka n’ Way. Chef worked at a 3 Michelin star restaurant in New Delhi. We ordered the exact same dishes and it took 45 mins to prepare. That should give everyone a clue.
Update 9/27: Interesting after our review lowered the overall rating for the restaurant, so many reviews written by Indians have 5 stars; note none posted any pics of them in the restaurant with their food. Mostly just gave ratings. Lesson learned for us not to fall for fake reviews when there...
Read moreThis was our third visit to the same restaurant chain, which has different names at each location — “Golden India” in Zermatt, “Spice India” in Interlaken, and another branch in Grindelwald (I can't remember the name).
In Zermatt, we met Paul, who was wonderful and so passionate about his work. In Grindelwald, we were warmly looked after by Filton, and in Interlaken, it was Sonu who made sure everything was perfect. What really stood out was how welcoming and grounded they all were — always smiling, always attentive.
In Grindelwald, we ordered butter chicken, which was perfectly balanced in flavour. In Interlaken, we enjoyed tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala, both paired beautifully with wines from their menu. And in Zermatt, we had chicken bhuna and chicken tikka masala — both dishes were outstanding.
If there’s one small suggestion, it would be to expand the wine list. The current selection is nice but a little limited, and adding a few more options would make the experience even better.
What’s impressive is that, despite being extremely busy (all the restaurants were packed when we visited), and even though we never had reservations, they still managed to accommodate us every single time. The food was consistent across locations, and the chefs clearly take pride in maintaining the same authentic taste everywhere.
A big kudos to Paul, Filton, and Sonu — along with their teams — for creating such warm experiences and serving consistently excellent food. Each meal across their restaurants was memorable, and their dedication and hospitality truly made us...
