I usually don’t ever write Google reviews - especially not bad ones since I know how harmful these can be to a business. But what my partner and me have encountered today is simply unacceptable. We ordered vegan pizzas, and after lifting the first slice from the plate, we noticed it was really stringy - too stringy to actually be vegan. I have worked with all kinds of vegan substitute products in a vegan restaurant for four years and never in my life have I ever seen vegan cheese having this consistency. So I asked the friendly staff if it was really vegan and without dairy to which he responded “yes”. I ordered and communicated in Thai by the way, and since this is my second language, there was no possible way of miscommunication or language barrier. We still ate the food while still being a bit suspicious about the cheese but after a small cockroach ran over our table next to our food, we decided we wanted to finish eating and leave as quickly as possible. Here is the thing: my partner is lactose intolerant and I have been vegan for 8 years now. I am writing this review while he is dealing with stomach issues I don’t want to describe in detail now. Even though I am not lactose intolerant, my body is not used to breaking down lactose enzymes anymore which naturally leaves me with stomach ache as well. So one thing is for sure: this restaurant served us dairy and claimed it to be vegan. I don’t mind paying a bit more to support (supposedly) vegan restaurants but the visit was not worth a single Baht of the almost 1.000 THB my partner and me paid for two pizzas, an appetizer and two beverages. We do not recommend this place! The stray cat waiting and sitting outside the restaurant licking and cleaning its fur was probably cleaner than this...

We had lunch at Govinda Vegetarian & Vegan, and it was an absolutely beautiful experience. The food is made with real love and care, and you can taste it in every bite. This is not your average restaurant — it’s run by Krishna devotees, and the cooking feels deeply authentic, like something your Vaisnava grandmother would prepare. Flavors are rich, wholesome, and nourishing, with every dish prepared according to Vedic traditions.
The atmosphere is spacious and calm, not crowded when we visited. It was quite warm the day we came, but the open windows and fans kept things comfortable enough. What really stood out, though, was the kindness and sincerity of the people running the restaurant. They truly care, both about the food they serve and about the guests they welcome.
Extra plus: Govinda occasionally hosts spiritual Bhakti programmes, adding a deeper cultural and devotional element to the experience for those interested. It’s more than just a meal — it feels like a place of community and heart.
Tips for visitors: Come if you want authentic Indian vegetarian/vegan cooking with a spiritual touch. Portions are generous, and the pace is relaxed, so take time to enjoy the food and the atmosphere.
Overall, Govinda is a hidden gem in Bangkok — part restaurant, part sanctuary, serving soulful food with genuine care. Highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic Indian vegetarian cuisine and a peaceful, uplifting...
Read moreI've been looking forward to going to this restaurant for a long time, and planned on dropping in twice during my three day trip, which made my experience even more disappointing. The tea I ordered was almost double the price that was stated on the menu, and when I got home I saw that my pizza did not have the extra toppings that I asked and paid for. Considering the prices of the menu items, this is really not cool. High prices are fine if coupled with good products and accurate service, but lacking that, the prices just feel exploitative. Add to that that the cashier was quite unfriendly.
I was also surprised to see that there was alcohol on the menu, as the Govindas restaurants across the world usually follow Gaudiya Vaisnava culture, which does not include serving alcohol. They still display Vaisnava iconography, and it's in their name, but don't seem to follow the philosophy, which was a bit strange. Like a restaurant with Islamic imagery and an explicitly Islamic name selling...
