A generous 3. Ex staff and guest.
Stayed here 1st time back in January 2016 as a guest. Was a very good experience at that time with a great mix of party vibe and chill. However I returned to volunteer in December 2017 and sad to say it has changed to be more about pulling in the money. The owners were pushing us volunteers to PUSH guests into things like drinking games, where they would have to buy drink's at the bar. Guests want to do what they want and will get I involved when they want to I found. Volunteers like myself were expected to work very long hours when needed (which was often) and I even got other guests drinks put on my tab because I got in late from staying somewhere else the previous night. I only found out because one of the other volunteers told me. Very sly!
Overall in a nutshell: Main pros are: great place to meet fellow backpackers, great party vibe, comfy beds, good air con, good washing rooms, the staff are generally very good helpful and friendly (while I was there).
Main cons are: not the greatest of locations if you're a backpacker, drinks are expensive and they hate you bringing them from outside, pay as you go as you can't fully trust your tab.
I would recommend staying as a guest however not volunteering for them. Was going to give a 2 star but though that was a bit harsh as overall its a good...
Read moreLet me tell you about this wonderful place by Bodega Bangkok. Slumber Party is absolutely awesome! The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. Plenty of room for my belongings unlike other hostels I’ve visited and the food in their in-house kitchen is amazing (dirt cheap too)! They host daily walking tours of some of the most beautiful temples in Bangkok and also took us out in the evenings to see live bands and party at well known clubs. I had an absolute blast! We played drinking games and they thank god they have a full bar. (Ask about no pants free vodka at 7pm). My first night there, I got my Bank card stuck in a 7-Eleven ATM. Not only did the owners and staff contact the bank to help me get my card back the they even assisted with some temporary cash so I wouldn’t starve! Such a supportive group! On my second to last day Mike, a staff member and resident, taught me how to swim at this amazing rooftop pool nearby. I’m terrified of water but he made it easy. He’s so diligent and patient. I love this place! I plan on visiting on weekends from my village north of Bangkok. I stayed in Sukhumvit residence but they have locations strategically placed throughout Thailand including Krabi, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. Such a great group of people. Ben, Brian, Alicia, Uma, Mike, Bram, Scott, Kong, Andrew and staff- you...
Read morePros: The room was great. I got good sleep every night I was there. The washrooms were clean and tidy. The staff were helpful. Location is pretty convenient. They provide free clean towels.
Cons: My room in particular was on the third floor and boy it was difficult to drag my luggage up so many stairs. Definitely did not give the vibe of a party hostel. The first night, I thought it was just me not being social enough. But from the second day, I realised the vibe was pretty dead. It was the least party party hostel I ahve ever been to. Even though they played good music, there was barely anyone at all near the bar. I had read reviews that sounded wild and wanted a similar environment. But this was nothing like I imagined. There was a ping pong table neatly arranged and absolutely untouched over the weekend. Just a few people smoking up occasionally outside the reception. The music stopped by 8/9pm everyday and there was absolutely no loud movement after that(hence, the good sleep, lol). The staff did not converse more than required. No efforts were taken by the hostel to make sure the guests were having a good time socially. No events at all. The hostel is right next to a huge public dustbin that stinks as hell and is a home to at...
