We stayed here for 5 nights, I went for this hotel due to the location as advice on a first visit to Istanbul seemed geared towards staying in Sultanahmet area, in hind sight I wouldn't actually agree with that advice but hind sight is a valuable commodity .Hotel was fine, clean, central, the airport taxi dropped us off at the end of the road and pointed vaguely, it seems they cannot actually go up to the door, seeing as there were many times on that drive I thought we would die as the driver spent the entire breakneck speed journey texting on his mobile, a short walk was not an issue. Check in was fine we were handed a bunch of excursion leaflets by the guy on the desk. The room was adequate, the A/C was not, we got a fan from reception the next day which helped. Breakfast was in my opinion a bit crap, coffee was good tho, was an A/C area or roof top terrace ||No bar or food available in the hotel.||The staff were very nice and eager to help especially when I was pickpocketed and had my iphone stolen.||All in all a nice, slightly dated hotel in a good location, in need of an overhaul on the A/C system or ask for a fan||My advice would be to stay in a different area of Istanbul as Sultanahmet is ok for the Hagia Sophia and similar sites and also the hellhole known as the Grand Bazaar. Istikal St in Karakoy is a far nicer area and the sites of Sultanahmet are easily accessible by tram once you have worked out the system.||Lots of resturants nearby and touristy shops and a...
Read moreThis is a lovely and charming hotel! It has a rooftop access and lots of seagulls to feed! The rooms are large and comfortable. It is regularly cleaned and everything smells a little like roses or flowers. We were in a family deluxe room. You really feel a sense of beautiful history here. The windows are large and overlook a bustling cobblestone street. If you run out in the morning you can catch a simit cart (soft Turkish sesame bagels) as it heads out to Aya Sofia. The staff is very kind, friendly, and responsive. We are especially appreciative of Kadir who guided us through our first stay in Istanbul. They speak English here so we had no problems. Breakfast is a lovely buffet of both Turkish and European familiar foods. We loved the cheese, of course, and the fresh vegetables. All in all, it was a very convenient location. It is a short walk from the T1 tram that hits all the site seeing spots. From Dolmabahce, to the bazaars, to the Galata Tower, we used this tram T1. The Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque are a short walk away. It is a magnificent luxury to hear the Azaan here and to walk out and be in the middle of such a beautiful historical place. We highly recommend this. Lots of families stay here so it is...
Read moreLocation, Location, Location! Hotel Uyan is located within a 2 minute walk to Hagia Sophia and all calls to prayer are part of daily life here. There is a self-serve breakfast from 8-10:30 on the top floor as well as a simple bar service at night, together with a rooftop terrace that lets you see the blue mosque. The hotel itself is in an old Turkish villa with 9 steps to enter, inside there is an elevator as well as a well-appointed lobby/sitting area. The interior is quite dated and nothing fancy but the beds & covers were excellent. This is probably the cleanest hotel we have ever seen in our travels! Staff was very helpful and friendly, they readily arrange tours, make reservations, and even walk you to good neighborhood restaurants. Everyone spoke English well. We would readily come back here, the location simply...
