By far, the best restaurant of our Istanbul trip! Great ambience (fun music and beautiful decor), amazing views of Bosphorus straight and Hagia Sofia, delicious food, and wonderful service. The whole restaurant was very clean, especially the bathrooms.
Our waitress Elif was super charming and funny! She walked us through suggestions for the menu, and led us to ordering the katmer dessert to end a great meal. We are SO glad we listened to her! Do yourself a favor and please order the katmer dessert - warm triangles of puff pastry filled with pistachio purée and served with the most delicious vanilla ice cream. This came with complimentary tea. We also particularly enjoyed the fish kefta, which was delicious and beautifully presented. Yusuf was also very kind, and we enjoyed watching him meticulously set the dining room.
We were very lucky to have the restaurant to ourselves for an early lunch (around 1130am on a Wednesday). We had the whole terrace to ourselves! We could see many more diners at the nearby Seven Hills, but their terrace was swarming with seagulls hovering the diners the whole time.
We genuinely enjoyed our conversation with Elif and Yusuf. Elif even gave us little safety pins with evil eyes to wear on our shirts (or nose, per Elif). It was a very sweet end to a perfect dining experience.
Our only disappointment is not finding this restaurant sooner...
Read moreThis restaurant is a gem of a place nestled in one of the charming alleys at Sultanahmet. The strenuous climb of four flights of stairs to access the joint is soon offset by the breathtaking view that the place has to offer. We were served by the most gracious host we encountered during our entire stay at Istanbul, Mr. Yusuf. The food was totally another level of experience. Sultan's Delight is truly everybody's delight. The tender pieces of meat resting on a bed of mushy aubergine had all kinds of flavors packed into one meal. Eggplant never tasted so delicious! The highlight of the meal was however the dessert, Pekmezli Irmik. One spoonful of this delicacy had the humble semolina topped with elegant pista and laid on a bed of rich ice cream, all vying for equal attention. At the end of the meal, Mr. Yusuf insisted that we clean our palate with a glass of apple cinnamon tea. Oh man, we will always be grateful to him for having elevated our taste buds to yet another level. It is a simple glass of tea, but tea never tasted so good. I would highly recommend this jewel to any foodie. The experience is definitely worth...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant 3 times in the last 2 years and this is honestly my favorite restaurant in Istanbul, a must-stop. For reference, I have been to approximately 30 restaurants and 20 of which are rooftop restaurants.
This place looks like a greenhouse in the sky, so beautiful and magical. The view is breath-taking, especially at sunset! The food is excellent, and the service is on point always! My favorite dish is the “Sultan’s Favorite”. The eggplant mash is to die for, and the meat is cooked to perfection! I just took my husband to Istanbul last week and it’s his first time there. After trying 7 rooftop restaurants while we were there, he also agrees this is his favorite out of all the ones we visited.
This charming restaurant is great for couples, friends and families. I would highly recommend it to anyone who visits Istanbul. The only thing I will flag is that just like many rooftop restaurants in Istanbul, you will need to walk up to the rooftop so it may be a slight concern for those with mobility...
