We arrived in reception after a long day and was greeted by the guy on reception. After a polite welcome he then proceeded to tell us all about the tour packages that were available when all we really wanted was to get to our room as we were very tired from a delayed flight, also on further investigation the packages offered we could get cheaper in the town. Perhaps a welcome drink while going through the packages would have been appropriate? |We were taken to our first floor room and first impressions were that this was a nicely appointed room. One thing is although the hotel is called the 'Balloon Cave' this hotel is not built into a cave, I was expecting it to be but it is a modern hotel but still very nice and a good ambience. The location is very good, a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The room itself had issues, the tap on the sink was leaning over and loose, there was no plug for the sink so a shave was difficult, the toilet seat was broken on one hinge and the toilet could have done with a good clean, and there was an awful foul smell from the tiny grate by the side of the toilet which persisted for the length of our stay. The shower could have done with a deep clean and the shower rail was loose and kept dropping down making a shower awkward. All of these issues are basic maintenance issues and could easily be resolved. The room was comfortable although the curtains barely covered the window all it needed was another 50cm of material to make them effective. The hotel is not located in the most picturesque part of Cappadocia it is quite scruffy immediately outside and you have to go to the roof terrace for a nice view. The staff did keep saying 'any issues to tell them as our happiness was their priority' but I had no confidence as on the first night I reported that out safe was locked and we could not use it and they never fixed the issue. The breakfast buffet I personally struggled with, the cereals were not nice, the fresh fruit tasteless, two mornings out of three no orange juice on offer, the chips were cold and the cheese ran out and was not replenished. The scrambled eggs had cheese on them one day and some sort of sausage the next, we just wanted plain scrambled egg. The bread was nice but the butter was not. My wife didn’t mind the buffet but quality needs to be addressed. |One morning about 9am there was a knock on our door even though the DO NOT DISTURB sign was in place. I opened it and the cleaning lady was almost demanding she should clean our room. When I said we were not ready to have the room done she looked at me indignantly and went off. Do not disturb is there for a reason and she should respect that!|So the problem is, we really enjoyed our stay, the staff were friendly but ineffective bordering on a bit lazy but as I said the hotel was comfortable. I couldn’t really recommend this hotel personally due to the comments above but it suited our needs and we made the best we...
