I had an overnight layover before a 10 hour flight the next morning. I also have sciatica, and plane rides are one of the worst things for it. As such, I specifically booked a hotel room with a jetted tub, as it really helps to ease the pain and allow me to sleep some. I took an hour train ride to this place specifically for this reason. Their booking platform asks you to put in any specific requests or wants, and I put in there that I wanted a spa tub that worked well. That was my only request
My jetted tub did not work. The jets would not provide consistent output and most of the time it was very weak output. It cycled with about one second of high output followed by about 3-4 second of low output, like a cyclic surge. Also the air intake valves didn't work, and the drain stopper was shotty, but whatever. I let them know immediately that it was broken and that I wanted to change rooms. They (the night reception person and their nameless "manager" whom they would periodically call or text, proceeded to try to convince me repeatedly that it was perfectly functional. They refused to let me switch rooms, or even go test the other jetted tub to see if it indeed was the same or different from the broken one. I offered to clean the room I had first, as I had only used the tub and toilet- they refused. I eventually just asked to book the other room in addition to the one with the broken tub. They hemmed and hawed about that too, and eventually agreed. All in all I think I spent about 1.5-2 hours of my evening trying to get a functional tub. I said it was ridiculous and that I didn't understand why they were being so mean about this. When I went to pay for the second room, the night reception person offered me a discount of about 55% and acted like they were being super generous with that. I said again that I thought they should just let me switch rooms but that if they just wanted more money, I would give it to them. They then asked for the keys to the first room, which I declined to provide as I have paid for it until tomorrow.
The second room's tub works fine. I took videos of both tubs and took them to the night reception person and asked if I could get a refund now that I have documented proof that the tub is defective, and they again declined.
The location was bad for me as it is far from Heathrow. But maybe fine if you want to be in Hyde Park.
The rooms other than the broken tub are actually fine too. Pretty cute. High ceilings and old-worldy. One had s fun little terrace with a table. The other had a big window that opens- not something you get in a lot of new places. Both seem clean enough and no sign of bed bugs lol
If they had been decent about the broken tub, or if the tub want broken, their rating from me would be much higher.
But they are mean and spiteful for no reason. Not kind or ethical at all. I don't recommend going there for that reason. If something goes wrong, they will not help you or...
Read moreWorst hotel , I’ve ever booked and I’ve stayed in a lot. We chose it for its proximity to Paddington Station as we were getting in from Edinburgh on a late train and wouldn’t be able to check in until after 9 pm. When we arrived, the location was somewhat in the seedy side. Had to phone for someone to meet as at reception. On entry it was immediately apparent that this was not a reputable outfit. The ‘lobby’ and I use the term loosely was a filthy and dingy room filled with desks, filing cabinets and pile ion pile of printed paper! Our ‘host’ informed us that we would need to pay an additional £50 holding fee in case we ‘damaged ‘ the room and insisted on needing to record not only my passport details ( as the person who made the booking) but my accompanying teenage daughter! After telling us that because we were late arrivals we could only have a top floor (no lift) room, despite me having reserved and paid for the room in full 4 days prior and emailed to tell them we would be late check ins. Then she led around the block to an entirely different building and up the steepest and narrowest of staircases to a third floor attic room. The decor of the room and building are grubby and dated beyond description . The room was the tiniest I’ve ever been in and the door was so flimsy we felt the need to bolster it with a suitcases to feel safe. Well there want room to unpack a suitcase anyway. To make matters worse, the beds were of the fold out metal ‘camp’ variety and very uncomfortable. When I tried to close the window the lower timber sill separated from the pane leaving us cold and draughty all night. There was no milk and it looked as though the teabags had been there for months, they were broken and spilling everywhere. We were so depressed we moved to another hotel the following day forfeiting our non refundable payment. Even returning my key was a difficult experience as the man in reception carried in talking on the phone for 10 minutes whilst I stood at the ‘desk’ . Do...
Read moreThe reception staff were in argument mode the minute you so much as asked them a question. We were told we couldn’t park in the road the minute we arrived, then asked to follow the reception man around the corner and up another road and up numerous stairs to see the shoe box room in another house that we were allocated, leaving the car illegally parked. We could only park on single yellow lines on Saturday and Sunday but by 8am Monday, we had to move to another area where we found a church renting out parking spaces. Nothing was prepared pre printed to show paying customers where to park, the reception staff had to go on line, obviously put out and irritated, to find out. They were so rude that even when I suggested that they could help their customers by pre printing and providing this information, they took offense to the suggestion and shouted ‘I told you, I told you where to go!. I said I was trying to help their business by making this suggestion but was shouted at again. This is not acceptable in the ‘hospitality’ business and we encountered it with both staff members we spoke to. You could only move around the bed single file. Your knees hit the toilet if you stood at the sink or got in and out of the shower, it was so small in there. Tea bags and coffee sachets only, no hot choc, no biscuits, no extra touches for your money. We had to phone the hotel we were supposed to be in to ask for more than the one rock hard pillow we were allocated. No bottled water supplied, we were told to drink out of the toilet tap! The bed and pillows were hard and uncomfortable. No assistance was given with your suitcases which, at nearly 60, with bad backs and knees, we had to drag up many flights of stairs alone. The breakfast room was down in the cellar, no windows, hot and claustrophobic. I had told them in advance that I was vegetarian and all that was on offer for me was one variety of sliced cheese. We ate elsewhere....
