What a dive! My family stayed here based on location and reviews. The taxi couldn’t find the place to drop us off because instead of a sign, there were two 8” x11” sheets of paper in plastic sheet protectors taped to the front that read “Linden House Hotel.” That should have been our first warning. We had provided the info. that we would be checking in late because of a late flight and were tired when we got there. The receptionist made a negative comment about the amount of luggage the four of us had (we each had a suitcase and a carry-on) then proceeded to advise us that we needed to carry all of that luggage up four flights of stairs. No elevator, no assistance. The stairs were covered in some kind of plastic shrink wrap. Our room was ridiculous. We had booked a quad with private bathroom. They crammed two full-sized beds into what was probably a twin room. The bathroom was the size of a small closet - smaller than any boat or camper bathroom I’ve ever seen. There were a few pieces of furniture (two nightstands and shelf unit stuffed into a nook that was also serving as a makeshift closet) and they were all perf-board pieces with their cheap water-stained laminate peeling off. The room was ungodly hot. There was one window that opened up into the very noisy and busy street below (with no screen or safety devices in place so this is a DANGEROUS safety hazard for anyone with children or disabled adult) and a fan bolted to the wall at the ceiling in a fixed position that pushed air onto the other wall rather than positioned to let any cool air from outside into the room. None of us could sleep so we ended up propping the door to the hall open (totally unsafe!) so we could have some tiny bit of air flow. The guy at the desk said we came too late for a better room (reservation made a month in advance and company notified about our late arrival). He ACKNOWLEDGED the terrible conditions and said they’d give us a first floor room the next day. He didn’t say the first floor room would be better ventilated or larger, so I sat in the dingy hallway outside of my family’s tiny room at 2am looking for other places for us to stay. I booked another hotel for the rest of our stay. The next morning the day manager chastised us for our unrealistic expectations and offered to move us to one of three available first floor rooms. Two were no different than the room we had, albeit less dingy and dated. The third allegedly had air conditioning, but at that point I didn’t trust the AC was even in working order. Linden House Hotel refused any refund nor offered any apology for our sleepless night. This was a TERRIBLE place, with terrible customer service. As we were leaving, the day manager very arrogantly advised me that I would find nothing better and would be back asking for one of his first floor rooms. He suggested we keep our luggage there since we’d be back anyway. To the contrary I found amazing accommodations elsewhere for just a little more per night. I understand traveling on a budget, but people, this place isn’t worth it. Be warned, Linden House...
Read moreI’m honestly baffled by how this place even has positive reviews. Our stay here was nothing short of a nightmare, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. From the moment we checked in, the hotel lobby and staircases were engulfed in the overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke. It wasn’t just a faint smell—it was unbearable, and it followed us all the way to our room. It was so bad that we actually considered leaving as soon as we walked in, but since it was late, we decided to try to make the best of it. Big mistake.
The room we were given was shockingly small—I've had bigger rooms in budget hostels. The layout felt like an afterthought, and the overall feel was cramped and uncomfortable. The walls were paper-thin, and we could hear everything—other guests’ conversations, footsteps, and even the noise from the old, creaky staircases. The hotel is clearly old, and it’s obvious the structure hasn’t been properly maintained in years. Every step on the stairs sounded like it was right next to our bed.
The room itself was not only small but also unappealing. The decor was outdated, and we honestly felt uncomfortable just being in there. I couldn’t wait for the morning to come. The bed was another issue: I found long, dark back hairs between the covers, which was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I didn’t even want to sleep there after that, but we didn’t have a choice.
There was no duvet, just a thin bed cover that barely kept us warm in winter. The temperature was freezing, and we spent the night shivering. To top it off, the room had a kettle, but it was filthy. There was white residue floating inside, making us question whether it was ever properly cleaned.
The cleanliness throughout the room was severely lacking. There were small bits of rubbish and stray hairs scattered around, making it feel more like a neglected motel than a hotel.
The cherry on top of this disastrous stay was that, a few days after leaving, we discovered we had contracted scabies. It was beyond frustrating and has completely ruined the start of our new year. We’ve been dealing with the health issues ever since, and it’s still an ongoing problem.
This place was a nightmare from start to finish. The smoke, the dirt, the discomfort—it's not worth a single penny. I wouldn’t stay here again if it were free, and I strongly advise others to...
Read moreWell where do we start.. We kind of were on a tight budget for accommodation and didn't want to be spending £££ on a fancy room when we just wanted a nice warm bed for the night.. didn't think we would be staying Fawlty Towers.. 6 flights of flipping stairs to get too our room no offer to help with baggage.. got there and the cleaner who didn't speak a word of English was still cleaning.. then we got in the room and everything seemed to have been squashed into it. Nothing really fit properly. Only had one small towel each and it took 10mins for hot water which lasted for 10seconds on and off.. TV worked for 5 mins then stuttered for 2 then came back. Beds were reasonably comfy.
Now for Breakfast... The room was slightly bigger than our hotel room however tables and chairs everywhere and everyone was there at once trying to eat. Staff were rude too us when we used the toaster and again No English skills so we just stared blankly at them confused too what they were saying. Accused us of break it even though we had not used it and were sat at the back of the room when it stopped working with a crowd of people round it. Complimentary coffee in thimble sized cups.. Had to have 12 just to get a good mouthful.
To sum it up without ranting further. Comfy bed slept well.. everything else was not up to STANDARD standards for the price we paid.
Will not be going again rather pay double that next time and actually get a good coffee in the morning and nicer staff with a better choice of breakfast than just 'toast.....
