My mother, my fur baby, Shiloh, and myself thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here at this motel. The rooms were nice, clean,and comfortable. Our room was quiet for most part except for early morning door slamming. The pet deposit was only 15.00 a night compared to 25.00 at the majority of other motels in Alamogordo. Putting aside all the good. I did have an issue with what it appears most to believe (including the guests and employees both that the doors on the rooms must be slammed to close shut). I found to be problematic when attempting to sleep later in the morning, after being awake all night talking to my Mom, whom I hadn't seen for a couple of years. Plus, being a trigger to my PTSD. I'm assuming the noise came from the Maids servicing the rooms. Or more likely the Motel Maids opening doors to all rooms, checking them for whatever purpose, then slamming doors to shut them. Because it was one slam after the other. Which is basically unnecessary. The doors can be shut if time taken to slowly push them shut. Besides all the doors slamming early morning we found everything else was really groovy. My Mom and I experienced excellent, friendly, and polite service by the motel staff, and the Maids were also friendly, kind, and cool. While the breakfast was edible and free. The pancakes and bacon was by far the best choice, in my opinion. However, we had only chosen the classic breakfast, the breakfast burrito, pancakes, and the kids' breakfast. But, hey, it was free and filled the tummy for most parts. They even delivered to our room due to my Mom and me being disabled. That was awesome!! Thank you for the great experience staying at Desert Aire. We will surely stay there again when the opportunity arises. God bless you all. Great people you have employed at Desert Aire!! Thanks to you all!!! You Rock!!!
Sadly, my beautiful Mother passed away on February 16 2023. And the weekend and last time I saw her before her passing and the time we spent together at the motel will have a seared memory within my heart and mind.. And I want to thank you for playing a part in me having such beautiful memories of the last days I was so blessed to spend time to lay in bed next to my beautiful Mother, my bestest friend, holding hands, talking all night long, laughing, reminencing, eating, taking loads of pictures. I knew in my hesrt this was going to be my last memories of me and my beautiful Mom being together after 67 years of her being my best friend, more like my sister. And I'm thankful to have shared them at this motel. It is a memory never to be forgotten. R.I. Paradise Mom. I love you and miss you so much. We will be together...
Read moreThis review is a bit delayed, but The Classic Desert Aire Hotel was such a gem that I had to come back to get this out there! We stayed here June 8th, 2024. It was a total last minute decision as my significant other and I were in El Paso for work and wanted to go sledding at the White Sands during our off-time on the weekend. This hotel was PERFECT! Let me tell you why;
THE STAFF: The people who work here are AMAZING! Super kind, very communicative & friendly, lots of good suggestions and never seemed off-putting. It was genuine customer service from genuine people who really seem to want you to have a positive experience. I got the impression the staff all invests pride in The Classic Desert Aire Hotel. I wish I could remember the names of the 2 women who checked us in, and our server the next morning at breakfast. She sure gave the BEST hug as we parted ways.
THE ROOM: We got a King Suite with an in-room hot tub that overlooked the pool and parking lot. We never heard any other residents once in our room and this was the day of the Company Party so there was plenty of festivities and music playing outside. The room was quiet even though we were only about 40 feet away! I love off-beat rooms that have their own personality. Though a bit outdated in decor, it was sanitary & clean...and the wall full of mirrors sure made it nice and bright when we opened the curtains! The bed was super comfortable after a long day of sledding and adventuring, and we used the hot tub twice it was so relaxing!
LOCATION: Tons of restaurants (go to the locally owned & operated La Hacienda and get the Carne Adobada - the restaurant was recommended by the Hotel staff and we finished every last bite on our plates!) Also, there are numerous attractions within about 30 minutes or so, and there's highways and the interstate just up the road. I've traveled through most states in the US now and we also felt SAFE in the area - that's a big one! It's definitely a 'small town feel' with plenty of big name restaurants and stores, if that's your preference, but we stuck to supporting local - you can tell the whole town is trying to support their local business' and keep a piece of their own history alive.
All in all, if you're a traveler that likes an experience, this is the place to pick. We will absolutely be back - possibly even before the ed...
Read moreI had a hard time determining my star rating for this hotel because so many of the issues are not that big of a deal but just made our stay inefficient.
The pros: rooms are large, beds are comfortable, hot water is ample, and there is plenty of parking. staff is super friendly and they have a nice little gift shop. good restaurants in walking distance and white sands is a quick 20-min drive with almost no traffic lights between the hotel and the visitor center.
the cons: -wifi is spotty and straight up did not work in our room. we asked the front desk but since they were sold out while we were there, we couldn't move rooms. -staff are inefficient at their jobs, and i feel bad saying that because they are incredibly kind and apologetic whenever something gets screwed up -checkin took almost 20 minutes (after waiting in a very long line) despite the fact that i had booked ahead of time -- not a huge deal but also the perk of arranging and paying ahead of time should be not needing to sit there for 20 min. -we were there for several nights and halfway through our stay all our keys got de-programmed - again not a huge deal, but sloppy on the staff's part for not doing it right in the first place during the very long check in process. -their pool wasn't open and it's june in new mexico. they said it was because there is only one inspector in the entire state of new mexico (odd but ok..) and he hasn't made it to alamogordo yet, but they were also doing construction on the pool deck so the original excuse really didn't make sense -while their breakfast is very good, the system is very weird. some items are free and others aren't. -they do not do regular housekeeping - you can request it, but we did not as we were only there a few days.
while none of these things were a huge deal to us, it did impact our stay. most of these issues are simple training things that i think the staff could easily improve upon, so while i can't say yes you must stay here it was amazing! i would say if you're a go with the flow traveler who is looking for a clean comfortable place to rest your head at night, this may be a...
