If you go to the Cambria expecting a 5-star experience, you're going to be disappointed, because it's not a 5-star resort. However, it's also much cheaper than a 5-star resort, close to Disneyland, and has a lot of great family amenities. After staying there 7 nights, I would recommend this place to friends/family for a reasonably priced place to stay for a Disneyland trip.
The room - We booked the family suite with bunk beds. The room layout is pretty nice. Kids loved the bunk beds. There is a tub/shower combo AND a separate walk-in shower, which is a layout I've never seen before in a hotel. I guess it would be good if you want to have two people get ready/shower at the same time. But there's only one sink/vanity. Everything in the room was clean and in good shape. Beds were comfortable. You can tell it's a fairly new hotel.
We were told we would get housekeeping on the 4th day only and could request additional housekeeping as needed. We actually ended up getting daily housekeeping for some reason. We didn't ask for it so I'm not sure why that happened but no complaints! Reminds me of the good ol' pre-covid days where that was standard in most hotels.
Warning - The kitchenette does not come with any utensils or dishes. Not even paper towels. So be prepared for that. There's a microwave but no cooktops.
Location - it's not quite across the street from Disneyland, but it is within a 15-20 mins walk, or you could walk to Toy Story parking lot (under 10 mins) and take a free Disney parking shuttle. You don't have to park there to use the shuttle. There's also an ART shuttle that stops next to the hotel, we didn't use that though. Some good food options right across the parking lot which we utilized on several nights. Starbucks, Habit, Jersey Mike's, a Hawaiian BBQ, a fish grill place, and a fro yo place.
Breakfast - The other reviews were right - it's a madhouse. Especially by 8am. I eventually started going early (before 7am) and found it to be better (but still busy) The first day we went at 8:30, almost 9. That was a mistake. It was hard to find a clean table, some things were empty (juice machine empty, some waffle batter dispensers empty, etc.) So my biggest tip here is GO EARLY. It's a much better experience. Scrambled eggs, sausage, some fruit, oatmeal, bagels/bread/muffins w/ toaster, make your own Mickey waffles, cereal, coffee, juice. The food was all fine and comparable in quality to most standard continental breakfasts.
Pool - We enjoyed our time in the pool area. There is a good sized heated pool and then a smaller (but still pretty large) hot tub area, as well as a splash pad and slides. The kids had a good time. We ordered food one day we were there from the attached bar/food place. We got pizza, sandwiches, and mixed drinks, and it was all pretty good. They also have a few mini golf holes, ping pong, basketball in the area. We didn't have any issues getting wristbands for the pool. Our size room allowed us to get 7 wristbands.
Safety - Overall, we felt safe at the Cambria. There is gated underground self parking ($30/day) and a security guard that is around most of the time during the day. But really anyone can walk down there at night so don't leave valuables. There's some iffy looking individuals hanging out at nearby bus stops on Katella , but they didn't bother us. I imagine (and hope) the City of Anaheim keeps those folks on a short leash so they don't bother tourists. We had zero issues on the hotel grounds. Very clean and safe. There's also security at the pool.
One gripe - Wifi wasn't great. It was slow and spotty in our room. Not a deal breaker, and it was free anyway.
This was our first stay at the Cambria and there's a good chance we'll return...
Read moreFantastic stay at cambria from July 18-23. We are a military family stationed overseas and unfamiliar with the area and went by google reviews to book this hotel so I wanted to leave my input as well. We had the queen suite.
Pros:
Self serve breakfast- Mickey waffles were great, eggs were hot and fluffy. Kitchen staff were excellent and making bulk meals for large crowds. I was impressed as most mornings there were huge rushes of crowds and the staff were great in refilling food, cleaning tables. Miss Edith especially was a delight and so personable ! Coffee was a bit too bitter, oatmeal could be a bit gooey after a while but overall, happy with our choices.
Beds- so comfy, sheets were starchy and cool. Pillows were soft and no complaints from any of us. Much needed after long days at Disney.
Housekeeping- excellent. Always replenished daily everything we needed—towels, tissues, cleared trash.
Parking- sucks to pay for parking but that’s everywhere in this area. Cambria has an underground garage guarded by security so it feels safe and shaded from the sun.
Location location location- the proximity to jersey mikes, froyo place and Starbucks is such a huge plus. We drove through Anaheim and many of the other 4 star hotels are in locations not as great as this one. This one is central to everything including target very close by.
Pool security- friendly and explained what wasn’t allowed in the pool in terms of food and snacks.
Pool amenities and water park- really nice perk and kids loved it. Parents love that it was part of the hotel. However, did not realize there was an amenities fee to use it per night.
CONS:
Pool - is great when empty but extremely crowded at times to the point of safety concerns. We also saw a kid vomit multiple times near and around the pools and I’m not sure what was done to mitigate or test the water bacteria and chlorine levels prior to having the guests re-enter. Also, that guest should have been promptly escorted out. They left on their own accord after their kid had vomited in multiple areas near the kiddie pool and hot tub and sat there for at least 20 minutes and let their other kid walk around in a saggy regular diaper in the water (hygiene and cleanliness was definitely a concern of mine at the pool). With no lifeguard or any staff really watching the guests at the pool besides the entry way, it’s hard to keep up with this stuff . Would suggest more oversight on this end. Swim diapers need to be mandatory. Anyone not following simple rules should not be allowed to stay. Lots of unsanitary things were happening at the pool.
Front desk staff- with the exception of a few, I didn’t find the front desk especially friendly. The young black gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and accommodating.
All in all not sure how this is a 3 star hotel. Definitely a 3.5-4 star in my opinion and we stay at a lot of luxury hotels and travel a ton overseas. I would recommend this hotel for the reasons listed above but was pretty turned off by the incident at the pool and how it was mitigated. I would say the PROS definitely outweighed the CONS for me...
Read moreWe picked this particular hotel due to the fact that we were travelling with our children and grandchildren and loved the pool and slides for the grandkids. Also we were happy that breakfast was included as that does make it easier for everyone to get up when they want and eat what they like. We were so pleased when we got there at 2 pm and our rooms were ready. How great, we checked in and unpacked and then off to the pool they went. The hotel is in a great location, an 8 minute walk to the Toy Story Shuttle that takes you right to Disneyland or a 20 minute walk to the entrance of the Park. Most mornings we just took an Uber which took no time and then evenings we took the shuttle. The rooms were spacious, however I would have given this hotel a 5 star but for the carpet in our room on the 5th floor really needed to be washed. It had a lot of spots and stains on it. Also housecleaning always seemed to be cleaning our rooms around 5 when we just wanted to shower and get ready to clean up after a long day. We had asked for 3 rooms all on the same floor but were given 2 on one floor and one on the 8th floor. With the elevator system they have in place you cannot go to another floor without a room key, so it made it a bit inconvenient when I had to check in on the grandkids on the higher floor. I did eventually get a key to their room so that worked, however we had booked 6 months in advance and was surprised that they could not accomodate our request for the rooms being on the same floor. The breakfast buffet was great for everyone as there were so many choices. The staff worked so hard keeping tables clean and food stocked. I don't see why some reviews mentioned that the buffet was not good it was more than fine ( I am not a breakfast person but found everything good). We enjoyed the happy hour and the lobby is a great place to just hang out. We also did go out to the food places just outside the hotel and they were great options but then you could walk 8 minutes and find other places to eat. The grandkids loved the pool and slides and during the week it was great however on Saturday and Sunday it was chaos. You couldn't even get in the pool as there were so many people, and I felt it was very unsafe. I couldn't find a chair to sit on as all the chairs had towels on them so you were not sure if they were taken or just left there. After standing and looking for 25 minutes I gave up which was so disappointing as I had specifically chosen this hotel for the pool and slides for the family (I don't know how you solve this problem but it had to be mentioned). I must mention the exceptional customer service by Amanda. She was always smiling and willing to answer any and all questions I had. She wrote down directions for me and always greeted me by name when I came into the lobby. Totally top notch and such an asset to your resort!! I want to end by saying we very much enjoyed and would return to the Cambria, it helped make our family vacation a...
