If you're staying in the area for either work or Disney and looking for something different to change up the meal plan for the evening, Ono Hawaiian BBQ is the spot.
One quick disclaimer is that this review is based off of take-out/delivery service. Just visiting the area and staying in the hotel, we opted to order through Uber Eats for convenience. We had Hawaiian BBQ before through L&L Hawaiian BBQ as well as other Hawaiian BBQ throughout the country as well as the island so we knew what we were looking for and what to expect.
We ordered the family meal combo which included a healthy platter of white rice (6 scoops), a generous amount of macaroni salad (6 scoops), and three meat platters that had generous amounts of both chicken katsu, BBQ chicken, and beef kalbi. We added an order of spam masubi to that which was more than enough for our family of four (2 adults and 2 young children - ages 6 and 3). The meal was more than enough for us, and was eaten as leftovers the following day.
The chicken katsu had the perfect crisp around the edges while the breading held the perfect crunch. The chicken BBQ was rather standard while the beef kalbi was tender and did not require much effort to eat from the rib bones. My little one devoured the chicken katsu, while my oldest child loved the BBQ chicken. The rice they used was great, while the bed of lettuce greens that the meats were on top of were refreshing and cut the heavy BBQ and fried taste of the meats. Both my girls loved the spam masubi which was reheated for the next day.
Overall great Hawaiian soul food to cap...
Read moreCame down here to visit in-laws for the weekend and needed something for lunch. We normally pick up McDonald's or Raising Cane's for the kids and something different for us, but this time we decided to just stop at one place for everyone since it would be easier and faster.
We hadn't eaten at Ono Hawaiian since we lived in Sunnyvale four years ago and found this location while yelping for nearby Hawaiian food. Having loved Ono back when we lived in NorCal we decided to stop by this location and give it a try, especially since it was only 10 minutes away from our destination.
The restaurant is located in a newish and modern looking plaza, close to Disneyland and route 22. The outside looks nice and clean and has some seating, while the inside is just as clean and chic. It wasn't that busy when I went in and it only took a few minutes for me to order. Waiting on your food will take a while depending on what or how much you order as well as how busy they are.
There are 2 young guys manning the registers and orders, while a third is doing the cooking. Even though they seemed to be quite short staffed with only the 3 of them, they did great handling the constant stream of traffic going in and out.
The food is just as great as we remember it and packed neatly with utensils and napkins in the bag. They don't skimp on the sauce here. They ask you what you would like and they give you how many you ask for. The young guy calling out the order numbers was also manning the registers while still having time to be...
Read moreI love Hawaiian but my experience with this location was horrible. I had ordered through Postmates and when my order arrived it was missing a plate order. I called them up and they said they were tied up and I would have to get in contact with Postmates for a refund. I said how that was possible if they were the ones to get paid for my order. The guy then told me if I could come down with the order ticket then he’d make the missing plate again. I went down and as soon as I told the cashier I was the Postmates caller she proceeded to walk over to another associate and started to laugh like an immature adolescent as the other associate looked at me. The same cashier that was laughing then walked over to another associate Which I presume was the person I talked to on the phone. He then proceeded to make my order free of charge. He gave me an extra order of free Mac which was the “special” of the day and two free drinks. When I got home to eat and relax we noticed they had given us the entire wrong order. They ended up giving us bbq beef. Perhaps it was my fault for not checking the plate that we originally received but they should check their orders before placing them in the bags with the ticket order that’s taped on them with the correct order names. The male associate handled it well but idk why the female cashier started laughing/giggling. That was plain...
