Sonesta Hotel located at 1 East Redwood Street Baltimore, MD. We checked in on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 around 7:00pm. We were assigned room 414. We brought our luggage to the room and turned the air as the room was stuffy. I also called the front desk because there was not an iron or towels for two guests. Maintenance brought up an iron and I went down stairs to get the towels. We left for dinner and when we returned the around 10:15 pm and the room was hot. I called the front desk and she stated to try the directions again and to wait 20-30 minutes to see if the room would cool down. She stated if it did not cool down she would move us to another room. The room did not cool off. So I called the front desk and she asked us to bring all our items downstairs. We brought all our luggage downstairs and she assigned us to room 429. Room 429 smelled like cigarette smoke , weed and a musty.
She moved us to Room 629 where the food seemed somewhat not properly cleaned. There is a water stain on the wall. Sofa bed is not clean and does not have a tv in guest area as advertised and paid for based on our reservation, Alarm clock did not work. There is a print on the bathroom door that appears to not have been cleaned. The duvet between the two white sheets looks like there is mold or it has not been washed between guests staying in the room. We went downstairs which was around 12:30am to make her aware of the issues and she was nice and professional she stated no other rooms were available to move us too.
I have sent multiple emails, made numerous phone calls. I’ve even had an attorney reach out to hotel. The manager promised a refund me via email and until this day August 2, 2025 no refund, no returned calls, no response to emails. You can’t contact the owners and the property manager is unprofessional.
I can say that the staff at the front desk on the premises was amazing and some of the most professional people I have experienced in our business travels.
The accommodations on the other hand we very disappointing, left us feeling uncomfortable and with no options for other feasible accommodations due to the conventions being held during this time in this area.
What is most disappointing is no one has reached out regarding this. See attached pictures. I should have taken more photos but it just reminds us of the not so good experience. Wishing our business trip would have had better accommodations especially being away from home for over 5 days.
If I could give this hotel zero stars I would. If you choose to stay don’t expect anything except for what you get. The rooms are terrible, management of the property and the owners...

I rarely write reviews, but this stay at the Sonesta Inner Harbor in Baltimore deserves a warning label… or maybe a hazmat sign.
Let’s start with check-in. I booked a 2-queen room in April. I arrived at the end of June. That’s nearly three months of lead time—plenty of notice, right? Apparently not. I was told they didn’t have the room type I reserved. The front desk staff was polite and eventually found a solution… by taking someone else’s assigned room. So essentially, they solved a problem of their own making by creating the same problem for another guest. Room inventory management? Not a strong suit.
Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a dead fly on the nightstand—always a comforting welcome. The décor felt like a tired throwback to a ‘90s airport motel, and everything was just tired. The shower spout was halfway falling off, and there was hair in the tub that definitely wasn’t mine. (I checked.)
Then there’s the smell. Oh, the smell. Imagine if Snoop Dogg hosted a candle-making party in a janitor’s closet. The entire hotel, from lobby to room, smelled like someone hotboxed the building and then tried to cover it up with three gallons of Febreze. I could taste the combination of burnt weed and synthetic “freshness” in my dreams. It’s that pervasive.
Beds? Squeaky. Not the “fun vacation” kind of squeaky, either—more like “every time you shift your weight, it sounds like a clown honking a horn under your mattress” squeaky.
And the AC? Didn’t work. At midnight. With no other rooms available. Maintenance wasn’t an option at that hour, so I got the full Baltimore summer experience indoors. I ended up canceling the second night and got out of there as soon as I could.
Bonus round: the area around the hotel? Not great. Lots of loitering, lots of sketchy activity. Walking around outside after dark didn’t feel particularly safe.
I really wanted to like this place—it’s close to the stadiums and could be great with some serious updates and better management. But as it stands? I wouldn’t stay here again if they paid me.

This was the worst hotel situation I have ever experienced. “4-star” is a complete joke. I come early and leave my luggage since they don’t do early check in. My friend arrives around check in time (3pm) while I’m busy in the city and we’re told the room still needs to be cleared. I come back around 5… still no room. Come back around 7… still no room but don’t worry it will be there later tonight! Around 8:30 I call and I’m assured the room is ready in 5-15 minutes. I grab food and make my way there. I wait until 9:20, and leave since I need to make it to a conference session and was told the room will be there for sure. Oh boy were they wrong.
I head back around 11pm. A new worker is clocked in and he’s clearly stressed. Multiple groups in the lobby also have no rooms. Workers have zero ability to check people in and rooms aren’t cleaned. I saw 2 employees (one of them potentially a manager) walk out and one audibly saying “I cant do all this, this is crazy”. While laughing! The general manager left the building at some point that night and the workers called multiple times to get a hold of them. No answer. The man at the desk said “if the GM doesn’t pick up in an hour, it’s been fun yall. I will leave”. Close to midnight I was told “you will for sure not have a room for another hour” Excuse me 😂? A personal connection luckily got his friends to put me in their room in another hotel. I walked the streets of Baltimore at 1 am with my personal belongings. I slept at 2 am
They claimed the reason this happened was “staff is not trained for back to back full houses”. You’ll probably have a room at non-busy times but under no circumstance should you book this place near a holiday, large event, or other general popular city days and weeks. Book literally any other established chain that has staff with common sense...
