Overall not impressive but definitely not bad, either, as it has solid food that wasn't out of this world, and some was better than others. I would say R&R is a classic Mexican food spot that one would go to for some easy walk-in food.
The pozole was pretty good, and the meat was very tender so that made up for the fact that the soup itself was fairly average (well-seasoned but didn't taste any better than other pozole). The nachos were freshly made which I could tell based on the traces of frying still there after placing all the ingredients on top of the nachos. There was a fair amount of meat which was a good thing, and within one bite, one had to work hard to ensure everything was on the nachos, which was why extra nacho chips were nice because one could scoop from the top if they felt like they didn't get enough of the cheese or the sour cream if they already got a lot of meat from beneath everything else. As much as there was a lot of meat, the steak was pretty hard, so I am hoping they didn't use a thicker cut like an eye round.
My lengua tacos came with rice, refried beans, and both red and green sauces. The rice and beans both tasted pretty solid, like classic Mexican food. The lengua was overcooked and became harder and drier than usual, so I had to use some lime juice and sauces to compensate for the dryness. The sauces were not super spicy, which could be good or bad depending on who is tasting it. The lengua flavor wasn't really there because it wasn't juicy enough, so if it wasn't for the texture, then I would think I was just having carne asada tacos, which would clearly be a downgrade.
In terms of drinks, I had the piña colada and it didn't taste bad. I could taste the coconut rum but the pineapple juice flavor was pretty difficult to identify, although I finally did it. There wasn't enough condensed milk as I couldn't taste any of it. Overall not a bad drink, so I would call it average.
Service was excellent! Our server checked on us a few times and as I was waiting for my friend, ensured that I wanted to wait for her instead of ordering first. He always showed up at the...
Read moreCurrently sitting in the basement area. After 20 minutes, nobody came to take our order. Had to go to the front to ask for a server. Then it took 10 more minutes for one to come. And then our food never came so we had to continually ask the front and the manager. They gave the table next to us a refill on chips before we even got chips in the first place. Totally ridiculous.
Overall thoughts after leaving: So to start off - the food here was incredible. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had - especially the fajitas and tacos. The place was cute as well. However, the reason why I have given this place such a low rating is the service. After having two girls who arrived after us being seated, we finally were seated in the basement area. After 20 minutes, no servers came to see us. We had to go up front and ask for a server. They said of course - however, it still took another 10 minutes for someone to come by our table. After we put in our orders, we didn't even get our waters for another 20 minutes. We had to ask someone to bring them to us. When we asked for chips, the server decided to give the table next to us a refill on their chips when we still hadn't even gotten any chips or food. By this point we were an hour into our experience and hadn't gotten any food and only waters - our drinks we actually ordered had still not come. I completely understand a business being busy and understaffed - but unfortunately this was not that. All the other tables that were not in the basement were being taken care of timely and being served. My advice to the business would be: don't seat people in the basement area if you're going to completely...
Read moreWhat a disappointment!!! I am still in shock! So we sit down at 7:00 pm before the Usher concert. Our party consisted of 3 people eating and 2 just drinks. We place our orders one of my friends couldn’t get the liquor or beer they wanted but we made it work. By 7:30 pm we still had no water, alcoholic drinks or appetizers (it wasn’t busy). Finally after asking 10 mins prior the waiter lets us know they didn’t have any tequila. We responded “your Mexican restaurant has no tequila at all? “ he said “yes! The Usher concert the day before cleaned us on! There is no tequila in this building at all!!!!” We said okay. Then 5 mins later the people sitting right next to us got the tequila flights. We confirmed with them that is was tequila. Then our food came. My shrimp tacos no issues. But when my partners “birria tacos” came out……. Originally she didn’t say anything about the appearance, she actually tried to enjoy it…. But it was even more burnt in the inside somehow… when we brought it to the waiters attention he goes “well they ALWAYS look like that and nobody ever complains.”It was 8pm by this time. Mind you we watched our waiter at the bar laughing and having a good time with his friends that came in 20 mins after us and sat at the bar. They got all their drinks, food and were out the door before us.
After we asked to speak to a manager we were told they weren’t there. To compensate for the inconvenience, the waiter says “ I am not going to charge you for the drinks and birria tacos” . Which we said duhhhh cause we didn’t get or eat that. Smh so much for...
