Motel 6 Birmingham, AL - Medical Center — Hotel in Birmingham

I went online reserved a smoking room when I arrived the clerk put me in a non smoking room. I called front desk he hung up twice I don't call back he called back like nothing happened. I know he was tired and short staffed bc h3 was telling a guy in front of me how long he's been here so when we finally talked he got hostile and I kept my composer I simply told him I asked for smoking he told me No you didn't ok... So while I'm sitting in my truck smoking I witness all kinds of activity going on finally I go in the room I arrived about 4 I went into room at 8 9 ish so took shower laid down... All of this with a broken ankle so time goes I hear loud music as if a party is going on outside mind you the door cannot close or lock properly so Yes I tried to stay awake as long as possible. I was awakened by someone banging on my door at 3am I hop to the door and it's some guy I'm assuming drunk idk... But he says oh I have the wrong room 😒 I just go back and lie down haven't had any sleep just in pain and wondering why am I in a room with moldy ceilings a raggedy door and it's a party scene! ? This was a horrible experience and I advise anyone that thinks of this place to run cleanliness was good customer n service TERRIBLE and I paid thru booking so of course no refund I feel defeated... Fast forward this am about 7 he called the room and t3lls me asa he gets one cleaned he will change it... It's 1:56 now and I'm sitting in my truck still waiting this is the worst experience I've ever had dealing with rooms oh and it was a non smoking but covers had holes in it just a sad experience. I assumed it would be better for all the wrong reasons I really wanted to leave and let them keep the money plus deposit that's how frustrated I was and still is unbelievable...

Considering the condition of this Motel 6, they are charging too much. I often stay in cheap hotels when traveling for work so I am not high maintenance nor do I have high expectations. I frequent Motel 6's, Econolodge, and America's Best Values and I believe I usually get what I pay for. I do not expect extra amenities or even friendly desk clerks. My room's shower knob was misaligned and did not match up with the Hot and Cold labels. I had to gently and methodically align the knob to get hot water which took about 2-3 minutes. In addition, the hot water took a while to kick in (about 1-2 minutes). So, I basically had to wait until a full moon, summon shower gods, create vigils every night and hold a stethoscope to the shower and slowly twist the knob like I was breaking into a safe just to get hot water from the shower. When the water did come out it came out in a stream like a water hose. The bathroom lights came on sometimes and sometimes didn't stay on. There was a 1inch gap in the door and door frame which allowed bugs to get in and made the room hot. I had to stuff a towel in the door frame. I will say, the ac worked, the sheets were clean and hot water did come on after some time and finesse. Honestly, I would not be writing this review had the price per night been lower because I could accept the conditions had the price been reflective of that. This Motel 6 should be charging no more than 50 per night. I am giving them two stars because my standards are pretty low and there weren't any bed bugs and the sheets were clean which is...

We got there late after a nice night out. We wanted a decent place to rest our head. When we got there the room smelled like the surrounding area. Light Sewage. It dissipates after a while. Nose blindness is a real thing. We checked in at the 11th hour, so I had to give my id to a foriegn man through a window. Couldn’t even come in. Had to ring a doorbell and everything. I went to the room and it seemed satisfactory. There was a fridge and a microwave, but there was only one battery in the remote. I had to ask my partner to go down and get one. We both showered. The water temperature was ok, not scalding hit like women like it, but ok. The towels were pathetically small and soaked up nothing. I checked the sheets, pillows, and covers. They were decent. TV was decent. We were lucky to have gotten a room in the middle. I would have not wanted to be on the bottom. They’re are some really interesting characters that reside there. Yes, I said reside. The maid walked in on us, and after I went to request extra paper thin towels, she ninja-ed away. The phone in the room was a Best Western phone and DID NOT work. What if there was an emergency? I was too tired to get breakfast, but I don’t regret it. I had a good time with my partner, so it made up for the flukes of the room. I didn’t see any roaches, so not completely unbearable.
